Two Bills Drive

‘Guess three inspired performances out of Rob Johnson was too much to expect. Had a chance to win more support before the home fans but instead gave his critics more fuel. Played behind another horrid line combination but that’s a given these days. The Bills need more out of their $5 million man. Johnson was listless, his passes were off the mark for three quarters and two fumbles after sacks led to 10 Colts’ points.’

‘Quarterback Rob Johnson was the primary recipient of the wave of aggression. He absorbed six sacks, lost two fumbles that set up Colts scores and was totally inept until mop-up time late in the fourth quarter.’

‘By halftime, Johnson had one less pass completion in nine attempts than he had suffered sacks.’

‘"The linemen were all like, ‘What? What?’ " said Bills defensive end Phil Hansen, who was on the other side, where the play was supposed to go. "We were all in a pile looking for the ball."’

‘Granted, Buffalo is awful, Rob Johnson has the pocket presence of a cellist, and the so-called West Coast offense is so inept, Bill Walsh is considering a lawsuit for defamation of offense.’

‘Rhodes ran against the Buffalo Bills with an inner drive we thought only existed in Edgerrin James, the Colts’ star running back who grew up tossing watermelons onto the backs of trucks.’

‘The Colts included James in their weekend travel entourage, but were pretty sure he would spend his time at Ralph Wilson Stadium lounging on the sideline. They did not deactivate him until 90 minutes prior to kickoff.’

"We didn’t play very well against them last time. Defensively we didn’t play well, and offensively we didn’t play well against them. We had 19 penalties, we killed ourselves, we’ve got to play better, and I think we’ll improve offensively. This is a good week for us to keep improving, we’re getting healthier and I’m not sure if we’ll get Jerry [Ostroski] back, but it’ll be nice to get him back and some other guys back in there."

"It’s in that area, but it’s nothing as severe as the people who have that separation or break or tear in that area. It’s just a sprain, and it’s really not that severe as [Washington Redskin rookie Jauron Dailey]. He’s got numerous bumps and bruises as a number of quarterbacks have at this time of year, but he’s ready to answer the bell."

‘The good news for the Bills is they have showed improvement. They only have allowed one pass play of 30 or more yards in the four games since. The bad news is the defense probably has to carry the load today.’

‘Price produced four catches for 103 yards and a touchdown in the Oct. 7 loss to the New York Jets. He struck for eight catches, a career-high 151 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s agonizing defeat at San Diego. He’s averaging 20.8 yards this season on 17 receptions, a flashback to when he was a feared big-play threat at the University of Tennessee.’
