With the first preseason game of the year on Friday, the Buffalo Bills held a single session workout on Tuesday, in which the team spent the majority of the practice fine-tuning their offensive and defensive packages.

‘Coach Gregg Williams and offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride aren’t worried about bruised egos, just who wants to emerge as the workhorse back in the club’s old-is-new-again power attack, one capable of 20 to 25 carries a game. “We’re going to let them compete and see who emerges,” Gilbride said.’

‘There are a number of positions where the Bills are dangerously lacking in depth, but quarterback is certainly an exception. Drew Bledsoe is a bona fide star, Alex Van Pelt is a capable backup who has started 11 NFL games, and then there’s Brown, whom Gilbride and coach Gregg Williams think has a bright future despite his third-string status.’

‘This year, quarterback Drew Bledsoe has the green light to change any play that Kevin Gilbride sends into the game. "Kevin really allows us a lot of flexibility. If we see something we want to attack and we’re in a poor play and there’s something better, we can get to it," Bledsoe said after practice on Tuesday.’
