Chosen with Buffalo’s second pick in the first round of the 1986 draft, as it would turn out, the Vanderbilt star couldn’t have joined the club at a better time. Only six days after signing with the team, a quarterback named Jim Kelly also made his way to Buffalo.

Rookies' share is too much of the salary cap
The Buffalo Bills, for example, have 10 draft picks to sign; at the very least that’s $160,000 of extra cap space to make up.
The changing face of the Bucs
“It’s very different,” said Johnson, the former Bills Quarterback. “We kind of ran the remedial version of the West Coast up in Buffalo. Down here, it’s a lot more advanced. Coach Gruden coaches it very well. He’s very detailed, and knows where he wants everyone and what to do. He’s a very good coach that way and it’s nice to be in this type of system.”

Peter King: Bills' offseason ranked #6
Drew Bledsoe replaces Alex Van Pelt. Mike Williams and Trey Teague (who I’m not crazy about because he failed with the Broncos last year) upgrade the Bills at tackle. Tom Donahoe has fixed a horrible cap situation. Heck of an offseason, and it will show on the field in September.
Buchsbaum: Steelers sign slot WR Mathis
Since they signed Mathis, don’t be surprised if the Steelers trade disappointing former first-round pick Troy Edwards to the Bills, if they can. Otherwise, they may just let him go and hope he doesn’t sign with the Bills. Tom Donahue, the Bills’ GM, was the driving force behind the Steelers taking Edwards in the first round.
