Bills still hunting LBs as Peterson pays a visit

‘Peterson is attracting a lot attention on the free agent market. He visited with St. Louis over the weekend and has a meeting scheduled with Detroit this week. Cleveland reportedly also has some interest.’

Getting a big lift

‘Joe D’s workout includes 1,000 push-ups (in sets of 200) and 30 minutes of jumping rope (usually in two 15-minute sets). As any boxer will tell you, that wouldn’t be shabby for a man half Joe D’s age. ("I could easily do 30 minutes at a time," he said, apologetically.)’

Talks with Adams gain momentum

‘The Buffalo Bills’ pursuit of some big-name defensive free agents is heating up, with general manager Tom Donahoe formally acknowledging his interest in Sam Adams, Mike Peterson and Takeo Spikes on Monday.’

Free agent signings might breathe new life into Bills

‘I spent much of Friday evening logged onto the Web site, TwoBillsDrive.com. On their message board, posters were rattling off a litany of potential free agent signings and the probability of each one happening.’

Foreman remains a Texan

‘Foreman and Keith Newman were once roommates on road trips as members of the Buffalo Bills and might be reunited. Newman was impressed after a visit to Reliant Park on Monday. The Texans are in search of a starting right outside linebacker after Jeff Posey signed a four-year deal with Buffalo last week, and Newman is one of their top targets. Newman, 26, spent the past four seasons in Buffalo, which used a 3-4 defense during his first two years in the league.’

Blank sells Hall on Falcons

The Falcons spoke briefly with the Buffalo Bills about the possibility of a trade for wide receiver Peerless Price, whom the Bills have labeled a franchise player. It was the first discussion with the Bills since Price’s visit to Flowery Branch on Saturday.

Falcons executive vice president Ray Anderson described the conversation as "uneventful" but was hopeful for future talks.

Addition of Rob Johnson is questionable move by Washington

But I just can’t get past the fact that Rob Johnson is still, well, Rob Johnson.

This is the guy who took 80 sacks during his 20-game stint with the Bills. He took 19 sacks in six appearances with the Bucs last season and has thrown just eight more TDs than interceptions in his career. He has never been anything special in the NFL and considering the schizophrenic nature of the Redskins’ QB situation over the past year, there’s a good chance that Johnson will get to see the field at some point.

Falcons trade linebacker Simoneau to Eagles

ESPN.com has learned that the Falcons actually pitched Simoneau to the Buffalo Bills last week as part of the teams’ discussions about a trade that would bring wide receiver Peerless Price to the Falcons.

ESPN | Mar 4, 2003

Watch for Price gouging

‘There’s no doubt playing indoors on the carpet of the Georgia Dome favors Price. And having Michael Vick to get the ball downfield fits with Price’s speed. On the other hand, there isn’t another Falcons’ receiver who legitimately would draw enough attention away from Price. And that’s why most scouts question how Price would perform without Eric Moulds supporting him. So what’s the price? A large multi-year contract after sending the Buffalo Bills a couple important draft picks.’

Donahoe not done upgrading Buffalo defense

‘The Bills have not made an offer to Spikes, Donahoe said. “We do have interest in the player,” he said. “We’ve had some discussion with the agent.”’

Donahoe Speaks on the Record

Tom Donahoe spoke to the media on the record on Monday about several free agents. Donahoe said the team did have LB Mike Peterson in today and that he was still busy making his rounds with other teams. He also stated that the team has had conversations with LB Takeo Spikes’ agent but that no offer had been made. In regard to DT Sam Adams, Buffalo likes him and have also been in contact with his agent.

The situation with kicker Mike Hollis does not look like it will be resolved very quickly. When asked where the team stood with the kicker, Donahoe replied “No where.” As reported by Empire Sports/WNSA over the weekend, the Bills made an offer to Hollis that was not accepted. Hollis’ agent, James Gaetano countered that offer which was unacceptable to the Bills. Donahoe would like to have Hollis back but admitted that he was not going to wait for something to happen and would be checking the market for available replacements if need be.

Bills Introduce Linebacker Jeff Posey

‘"I got a chance to visit with coach (Gregg Williams) and I believe I’m going to have a lot to do with rushing the passer and also being a strong outside linebacker. I believe I can come in and help this team because I know with the offensive move they had last year (they have the offensive tools). I’m just looking forward to coming here and becoming an asset to this team and help lead this team to a Super Bowl."’

Johnson agreed to a deal worth approximately $1 million per season, apparently for two or three years, and is slated to back up Patrick Ramsey next season. The former Buffalo Bills starter backed up Brad Johnson for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.
