Teams hurt by carrying 'dead money'
‘Despite thrifty cap management and a terrific job of whittling away at the pool of “dead money” he inherited, Buffalo Bills general manager Tom Donahoe is still working this year with a hole of nearly $15 million in his salary cap. Over $5 million of that is tied up in former starting quarterback Rob Johnson, released early in the spring.’

AFC East recovery room
The Dolphins have a series of nagging pains that must be monitored, but the Bills and Super Bowl champs have gotten off pretty clean.
RB Travis Henry (knee) — Ready for camp.
Henry had his knee cleaned out to repair loose cartilage but has fully recovered. He has worked out and expects to be full bore for camp.
G Jerry Ostroski (knee) — Limited in camp.
Questions still loom how his knee and leg will respond. The team’s veteran guard continues to work through some problems in his knee derived from problems with a leg he broke last preseason. Doctors inserted a metal plate for support but the plate has aggravated his knee. Doctors then cleaned out some tissue in the joint in June to promote healing. He is expected to be limited in camp and the team is uncertain when he will return to 100 percent.
AFC East Primer: Dolphins are best of a good bunch
If Buffalo can settle its uncertainty in the backfield and offensive line, it could easily sneak past .500 and into the playoffs. One daunting factor is the Bills’ strength of schedule — it’s tied for the toughest in the league.
