John Adams Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 The strong and free safety positions seem much improved. Maybe guys aren't making the big hits without Whitner but they get turnovers and are often in position. I say Whitner returns in the Nickel package but I'm sure Dick will do the wrong thing and return him to starter...just like he wrongfully returned Lynch to starter.
John from Riverside Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I said it back when we drafted Byrd......he was drafted to be Whitner's replacement....... We are seeing what that safety spot is supposed to look like with a playmaker
Simon Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Over George Wilson? Are you kidding me? Don't pencil it in, use a Sharpie. It's a no-brainer.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Byrd has to stay as starter Whitner has to start playing

CodeMonkey Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Byrd has to play. So one of the 2 injured starters sits.
BillsVet Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Man, if Whitner heads to the bench (and it's not likely given his paycheck) that puts the final nail in the coffin on that 2006 draft. Byrd did things today Whitner rarely does. That's a rookie versus a fourth year vet.
JPicc2114 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Let me make this easy for all of you. Byrd starts at free safety, Whitner starts at strong safety. Bryan Scott takes a seat on the bench and comes in on running situations for Byrd.
BillnutinHouston Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Isn't it obvious that Donte's the better player and HAS to be on the field? In my mind the best lineup we can put out there is Whitner (by a nose over Scott) at SS and Byrd at FS.

John Adams Posted October 25, 2009 Author Posted October 25, 2009 Byrd did things today Whitner rarely does. That's a rookie versus a fourth year vet. Whitner has 3 career INTs. I don't hate him as much as others but the secondary is playing better without him.

High Mark Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Whitner and Byrd will be starters I think. But even when Whitner and Scott were around, Byrd was on the field with them. Dont be suprised to see 3 safeties on the field again.
BillsVet Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Think Whitner makes the shoestring tackle on Smith? Good question.
BillsWatch Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Corner of all of the DBs seems to get burned the most and they have said that Whitner is capable of playing CB; I think they make Whitner middle DB whether you call that 3rd CB or 3rd safety depends on defense definition.
papazoid Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 whitner will absolutely be starting......but will have to go back to Strong Safety........Byrd will be at Free Safety for the foreseeable future.

Donte will go back to SS. Byrd will stay at FS. None of us know if Byrd is any good in coverage or not but there is no way they can put him on the bench now. The INT's were bad throws and great reactions.
FIVE Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I said it back when we drafted Byrd......he was drafted to be Whitner's replacement....... We are seeing what that safety spot is supposed to look like with a playmaker Byrd is playing amazing.
