Ya, it probably is.

Amazing how Roscoe is now a bum after one bad game. You people do realize that he has a much longer history of being a good punt returner than he does of having games like the one against Cleveland. He had the highest return average in history, for God's sake. No, he's not the sharpest knife the drawer, but the only problem with that is, the coaching staff is just as dull. He's right for being upset with the buffoons that run the offense. Have him run a fly pattern. Give him a couple of end around plays (yes, I know he got stuffed on his last one). This coaching staff has no ability to work to the strengths of the players they have. They are too narrow-minded and keep trying to fit square pegs in round holes (that sounds crass, I know). He has shown the ability to make something happen if he's thrown the ball (nice TD catch in the sunday night blowout against the pats, deep pass in detroit, catch and run against the jets in his rookie year). The problem is that they are too few and far between. And no, that is not Roscoe's fault for "not being open", which is the common refrain among Evans' critics also. You put this receiver corps with a QB with balls and some creative playcalling, you could have a really good offense. One that could make up for the shortcomings of the offensive line.

It's not one game. He hasn't done a thing all year. Please remind me of his game changing plays through the first quarter of the season.

Geez...talk baout living in the past. Deion Sanders was pretty exciting too...about 10 years ago. How long are you willing to wait for Roscoe to do something "exciting?"

It isn't just ONE bad game. He's lost three fumbles; two in the Cleveland game one in the N.O. game. His punt return average is anemic this year. It isn't entirely his fault, special teams have been bad, but his decision making doesn't help. Running the wrong direction and losing like 20 yards, etc.

My guess is that he ends up handling either kick returns OR punt returns, not both, when the coaching staff feels like they can trust him again.

Living in the past? 10 years ago? Guy, are you for real? His ranks the last three years in punt return averages: 1st, 1st, 3rd.

If you don't think he's a good receiver and that he's overpaid, that can be argued. But you can't say he's not good at returning punts.

This year he is 21st after the 5 games he's played. Horrible, isn't it? The special teams that takes penalties on every other play is kind of horrible too though.

I used to be a big proponent of Roscoe, but even I've come to realize that his poor decision making and inability to move forward to gain yardage has become a liability to the team. And this team can't afford it.

No. He doesn't even handle punts well anymore.

It is a zero fail mission with handling the punts... He has to handle them cleanly then the idea about taking it to the house comes next.

Simple, lay down the law till he gets it.

1st, 1st, 3rd, 21st. Seems about right. You can't return punts forever. That's probably a standard regression for top punt returners.

If you actually get excited when the other team is punting because we have a "specialist", then I truly feel bad for you. Decent punt return specialists can be picked up in the 7th round. We're just dumb enough to waste a 2nd round pick on one.

Yes it is, especially when he is being paid millions and can't do anything else.

Please explain, specifically, what benefit this has provided. And don't just say "field position", back it up with numbers.

Bills just replaced roscoe as their punt returner (actually they did last week) and I have no idea why. Other than being the most exciting punt returner in the league next to josh cribbs, he's the only thing other than Brian Mooreman on the team that fans have to get excited about. I know it's probably because of his complaining and the way he played during the Browns game that he got benched but I think both are dumb reasons.

In the Browns game there was absolutely nothing going on all game. When roscoe fumbled that punt he was trying to create a spark which otherwise would have never been ignited. Yes the bills lost that game and you could say it was because of roscoe, but I highly doubt anything would have happened with the offense if he just let the ball go.

He also has the right to complain, even if he was somehow the #1 receiver on the team. Going into this season the Bills had argueably the best wr core in the league. You can't tell me that Lee Evans wouldn't have 80-100 catches a season if he played for any other team in the league other than the Raiders, or that TO finally hit the age where he can no longer be productive. It's all the offense, coaching, and qb. Roscoe has a right to complain and I wish Lee, TO and company would grow a pair and do so also.

Benching roscoe is just another step in the wrong direction that this organization is taking.

I agree with you on the point that during the Browns game he was trying to make a play....it backfired on him and he lost his job as a result.

Have to give Jauron some credit for this move, about time somebody payed the price for costing us a cheap field goal that lost the game for us, even though it was more Trent's fault than Roscoe's .

Think this is more about getting Fred Jackson on the field more. He needs to touch the ball as much as possible in the open field, I like it.

Exactly. We've had the best ST for several years... what did that get us? Parish was leading the league in punt return average... what did that get us?

Too many people are focused on the wrong thing. I'd much rather have a productive WR on the field that can help the offense move the ball and score. One completed pass for 15 yards makes up the difference for any field postion "lost" on a punt fair caught.

The other thing to consider is there is a time to move on. Most all players have high points in their career and then fall off in production. The key is determining when the playing is falling off and moving on at that time. Holding on, hoping for him to regain his past glory is a dead end street. IMO, Parish's best days as PR are behind him. Time to move on.

exciting and producing are 2 very different things. While he is exciting, he has been hurting the team.

What kind of stupid argument is "what did that get us"? The Bills suck because of the offense and the defense. The special teams have did more than their part the last few years. Just because the sum of the parts stinks, doesn't mean every single part does also.

As for productive wide receivers, I think we have more than most teams. The issue is QB play and play-calling.

That's exactly my point. What would you rather do... build your team around players that are great on ST or build it around players that are great on Offense/Defense? We have 2 good WRs this year, but what about year's past? Roscoe has had a roster spot largely because of his ST abilities. I'd much rather have a player who's helping us score on Offense.

We've had great STs in part because we've carried players on the roster that produce on STs but not on Offense/Defense. And what has that gotten us? I'd much ratherr have average to below average ST and an above average Offense.

IMO, Jackson is more than aequate returning kicks. And by benching Parish, you can promote Stevie or Hardy (eventually) or Byrd or anyone and maybe increase the offensive/defensive production.

Yeah, nothing more exciting than losing 20 yards on a punt return or fumbling a tie game away in the closing minutes.

I know I was pretty exciting while watching those plays (and screaming "WTF are you doing?!?!?!").

:wallbash:

He was one of the few guys on the field trying to make a play.

Stupid decisions are stupid decisions...but stupidly aggressive decisions motivated by a competetive spirit trying to make up for the pitiful play of your teammates are at least understandable.

The guy has been in the league long enough to know when to field a punt and when to let it go, he still doesn't always get it right. He is not a smart player, he makes way to many mistakes for a veteran KR and he stinks as a WR.

I would rather someone with a brain field punts, even if they only get a few positive yards, at least they won't screw up like Roscoe has recently.

Perhaps some inactive time might wake the guy up to play smarter, then again he just might be done.

Roscoe is a mental midget and a physical midget.

He does not know the plays. Go back and look at that Saints game. Right before the half, the Bills were moveing the Ball. Roscoe actually made the first play. Then when it came time to get back on the line and run the next play, he did not know where to line up. Cost the Bills time and then a timeout. not to mention his fumbles. Roscoe has played very unfocused football. If he was mad about not getting time in at WR, how is he going to feel not getting anytime? punt returners dont last long, he is near the end of his rope as that. And is no where near smart enough to be a wr.

Your post should be more qualitative with regard to the term OFFENSE... The defense was doing a great job... Stoping them on almost every big play... Even the goaline stand at the end of the CLEV game... When I was screaming for them to lay down and let the Bills offense get the ball back with 1:56 and try for 7 instead of :25 seconds and trying for 3 (remember the Bills had zero timeouts left)!

Benching the punt returner definately was what we needed to do. Can't wait until the end of the season with trent as our leader and jauron as our couch and we are 12-4

Roscoe Parrish is an awful football player- he's not in the same league as Josh Reed....unless all you care about is excitement and fluff

Roscoe is just another one dimensional player who has a big year or two as a returner and then fades away like Dante Hall, Jermaine Lewis, Darrick Vaughn, Michael Lewis, and BJ Sams. The Tim Browns, Steve Smiths, and Wes Welkers are few and far between.
