DDD Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Trent Edwards lack of development #1. Not seeing our offense game plan to throw to two great receivers in Evans and Owens #2. Trent Edwards unwillingness (or incapability) of throwing downfield. #3. Seeing absolutely nothing from first round pick Aaron Maybin. He has bust written all over his skinny ass.
Maddog69 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Trent Edwards regression. Unexpected, extremely disappointing. Why do people use the term "regression" in relation to Trent ? Regression implies that he showed progress at some point. In my opinion, he is exactly the same now as he ever was. Quick to get rid of the ball and take short gains regardless or down and distance or who is open downfield. Originally this was seen as an improvement because the perception was that JP held the ball too long and got sacked too much. Trent really never achieved anything other than not being JP. I would equate it to Barack Obama getting a Nobel Peace Prize for not being George W Bush.

I'm with you - I'm not more disappointed in Trent because I never saw much to make me think that he was finally going to be our "quarterback of the future" - I was hoping, but not convinced he had done anything....
stuckincincy Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 The year as a whole has been totally disappointing, but in my opinion, surprisingly the biggest disappointment has been the Special Teams. For the past 6 or 7 years, the team has for the most part stunk, but you could always count on the Special Teams keeping us in games, and has been rated in the top percentage of the league every year. This year they have blown two games with fumbles, had punts touch them and lost the ball, had big runbacks against them, way too many penalties, been unable to get down to down punts, just plain undisciplined football. Not sure what has happened to Bobby April's Special Teams, but outstanding play by them has become a memory. They show April every game upset, screaming, appearing like he has lost control, along with the rest of the coaching staff. What has happened? My biggest disappointment this year was when my wife was mowing and let one of my 9-year old 2-stroke Lawn Boy mowers pitch over the retaining wall, smashing upon our down-dip driveway. The deck was bent. No big deal, I bought two and switch'em and now have spare parts.
scribo Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Trent Edwards lack of development +1 -- This is going to set us back further than our coaching situation or anything else really.
mrags Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Trent Edwards not progressing at all (might actually look worse) Trent Edwards not getting the ball to his $12million wide receivers The coaching staff was very, very wrong about the LT and RT positions The coaching staff still cant put their team in a position to win a game (possible exception with NE but then why didnt someone tell McKelvin not to run the kick back, or to make sure he held onto the ball) Special Teams is a joke, Bobby Aprill is showing that he is more about having good players than the other way around Injuries again have destroyed this team The lack of depth at linebackers is a joke Poz and Mitchell are a joke We should have kept Greer and let McGee walk We should have signed Peters for any amount of money he was asking for, then tipped him 64 Philly CheeseSteaks to make him happy The run defense Marshawn Lynch Roscoe Parrish Not making room on the roster for Stevie Johnson, or James Hardy yet Ralph Wilson for not firing Dick Jauron by now Ralph Wilson expecting him not to fire Jauron at all this season The win against the Jets and the injury to Trent might have actually bought Dick another year with winning a few (what we thought to be) unwinnable games while using the injuries as an excuse Myself for falling for their crap again In the end its not all like walking on razor sharp shards of broken glass: The secondary looks great, lets just hope that Byrd continues to start and learn The interior of the OL is leaps and bounds better, with a decent set of T's they could be monsterous Schobel isnt exactly back to his pro-bowl form but hes playing pretty well Kelsey isnt making me want to vomit on myself Ellison is actually playing decent, I would be ok with him being my 3rd LB with a decent group around him Fred Jackson has shown that he can be a good back. Can we please just keep him in and get rid of Lynch? The TE's havent been too bad If they dont turn it around completely they just might actually fire Juaron
Shamrock Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 They have lost a lot of the players that made ST stand out. They were replaced with a lot of other ST specialists that don't seem to be getting it done. I agree that it's a bit of a mystery that April hasn't been able to get more out of them. Wendling has made a lot of nice plays (on ST). What he said. If you keep replacing talent from a unit so often, the tinkering wears it thin.

ST stands out as one of the biggest dissapointments this year...here is how I would rank them... 1. ST 2. The teams inability to get our WR's the ball 3. The level of Trents regression with all the weapons he has 4. The lack of sightings of Johnson and Lankster (especially since Lankster was such a ST star in college and had such a strong preseason).
truth on hold Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Jauron will never learn. He's a complete loser. It's all rather futile until he's gone.
Alphadawg7 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Forgot to add #5...the lack of Shawn Nelson involvement. Why arent we getting him more time in the passing game, even lined up as a 3rd, 4th, or 5th WR is beyond me...

Yes he looked very good in the preseason, but with Corner, Florence & Youboty ahead of him, that's just too much talent you can't ignore.
box0life Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Trent Edwards without a doubt. This was his critical year to perform.

I wasnt referring to him in the defensive backfield, but why not ST's? He was a star on ST in college, and I thought he showed enough as a DB in the preseason and camp to at least be on the active roster, even if only as a ST player.
NewHampshireBillsFan Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 #1. These are also my three. Many disappointments of course but I don't know any other team that could have Evans and Owens and not make other teams quake with fear. That nice TD pass and run over the middle of the field by Fitz to to Lee showed how much could have been done this year. Why not even do some more end arounds to TO just to get the ball in his hands. TE speaks for itself. Maybin I was always nervous about. He is sort of a Roscoe Parrish version of a DE, fast as anything, but easy to knock out of the play with a good block.
Mark Vader Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 For me it's been Aaron Maybin. I know he's a rookie and it's only been 6 games, but for a draft pick that high and playing on a defense that's really not full of stars you don't hear about him. I'm not saying he's got to have 10 sacks at this point, but he's got nothing (unless you're happy with 3 tackles over 6 games) - he's been completely invisible. Makes me fear that we've wasted yet another draft pick and big dollar contract on someone whose onfield talent is nowhere near what we paid for him. I'm hoping that Maybin develops into an impact player, but let's face it - when he was drafted the Bills really needed someone who could contribute immediately, not 2-3 years from now.... I'm not surprised that Maybin has been invisible this season. I believed that the success of this past draft would be the play of Eric Wood & Andy LeVitre. I was not thrilled with the pick of Maybin mostly because I believed he would not be an instant impact player. Maybin has loads of potential and could become a very good DE, but I see that happening next year. So I can not call Maybin a big disappointment.
PDaDdy Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Trent Edwards lack of development Depends on what you expected I guess.

I would equate it to Barack Obama getting a Nobel Peace Prize for not being George W Bush. Riiight. Terrible comparison but I get your point. The only accomplishment that could top a black man becoming the president of the united states is a jewish pope. As you say Trent was never really anything more than a guy that wasn't JP. He's had a few good games and a lot of bad ones. I did raise my expectation slighty when we signed Owens but Trent hasn't been able to use him and TO seems disinterested at this point. I say ST is by far the biggest disappointment because I actually had high hopes for them and expected the usual top 5 performance.
DC Tom Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Very special teams. Edwards regressing to a Losman-like level. The atrocious run defense. I mean, I didn't think it would be great...but I didn't think it would be embarrassingly bad, either.
evilbuffalobob Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 The (continued) lack of utilizing the Tight End, namely Tony Gonzalez. He should have been ours last year (and still ours). A big target that always gets open whom a panicky/wimpy Qb can always find. Although, ST has been downright raunchy.
billsfreak Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 What he said.If you keep replacing talent from a unit so often, the tinkering wears it thin. That is true, but I don't think it excuses all the mental errors that they have been making. A slip in play can be understood with a slip in talent, but discipline is coached.
