outsidethebox
Look at Las Vega then look at Laughlin. The difference is so striking but they both have casinos. You can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a cows ass, but I'll take the butchers word for it!

Chef Jim
Laughlin's budget is what compared with Las Vegas? Come on, man!!!! Did you ever think it's more how the cities are run?
EasternOHBillsFan
Did you ever think it's more how the cities are run? Yes, and those in Ontario run their city right... and look at all of the nice casinos and the atmosphere around them... you just made my case! Niagara Falls has the Occidental Petroleum building... nice.
drinkTHEkoolaid
i'm very skeptical anything will get accomplished... but if it did it looks like it has a ton of potential... until the scum bags filter over and ruin it for the people who want a reason to enjoy the city... It's called political and city leaders which Buffalo has been lacking for decades.

The whole thread started over a waterfront plan, and it should include a casino to pump more revenue into the city. This would help to ease tax burdens and stimulate the economy, and also present an opportunity to make even more improvements. THAT was the whole point... I have to disagree. I have lived in TWO cities that have had casinos, and both have not been greatly affected by crime. In fact, I'd say Buffalo is a lot more dangerous NOW than it ever could be with a casino.

This Buffalo we are talking about.
Chef Jim
Are they any worse than the politicians? Out of curiosity, what kind of people are you talking about? Go to a casino outside of Vegas. Every been to Laughlin? Reno? Tahoe? Hell the seedier parts of Vegas. People that sit at a slot machine for 12 hours smoking camels and drinking bud light. Those kinds of people. And Bmore it's not the crime, it's the quality, or lack of quality of people I'm talking about.

Turning Stone Casino in WNY has made anywhere from 70-167 million dollars during its existence, and it is out in the middle of the country (well, about as best as you can off an interstate!) Maybe I was thinking of Nevada. I thought I read somewhere that casinos were being affected by the recession.

I'm just thinking that things could not be any worse for the city of Buffalo, so why not try something that has no downside? The Oneida nation can do it, so why not? Mainly for me it's just that certain casinos give me the willies. We used to have a company trip to Laughlin to boat on the river. We stayed at Harrahs and it was actually quite depressing. I'd get up early (6:00am or so) to get coffee and a paper and there they'd be, smoking and pulling away at the slots. Not a lot of high rollers in Laughlin and I wouldn't suspect a lot of them in Buffalo either.

Pretty sad.

I can see how you'd react to a casino from that experience... when you have an area with a lot of them, that would be an accurate representation. However, having exclusivity really improves the experience, like at Foxwoods or Casino de Montreal- it is THE place, and there is a lot more going on. Yeah but if you put it in the middle of a city, what do you think it will attract? I personally would rather see something more family friendly than a casino. Just my opinion.
