IMzeke Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Word is that Merriman could be traded for. Does this have any merit??? Thoughts?
bizell Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 how would merriman fit in w/ us, since he's a 3-4 olb? (he's big enough to play DE, though)
wonderbread Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 well we have a glut of DB's maybe we could move one of those? OR Dick could just suck it up and move Maybin to backer. By far this would be the best way to bolster to LB corps.
WordByrd Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 our owner is ralph wilson. this isnt happening so there's no point in discussing it
todd Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 our owner is ralph wilson. this isnt happening so there's no point in discussing it Why? People who know Buffalo history remember the trade for Cornelius Bennett.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Why? People who know Buffalo history remember the trade for Cornelius Bennett.todd in them days we had a real GM that knew football
BUFFALOTONE Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 after the juice wore off he isn't the same guy. No worries though, he will be traded to the Pats and get back on the "program"
VJ91 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Why? People who know Buffalo history remember the trade for Cornelius Bennett. Sure, Bill Polian traded Greg Bell and a bunch of draft picks to the Colts for Bennett. Then the Colts took those draft picks and Greg Bell from the Bills, threw in a couple more picks of their own, and traded them all to the Rams for Erick Dickerson, the best RB in the NFL back then in......1987! You will have to travel to that sparkling new palace with the retractable roof in downtown Indianapolis, (kind of ironic, don't you think?), to find Bill Polian in the Colts' President and GM's office today, 22 years later. He's been building the Colts into SB Champions (2006, their first in Indianapolis) and perennial 10-13 game per season winners since he drafted Peyton Manning with the number one pick way back in 1998, his first year as Colts' GM. So please tell me how that trade from over two decades ago proves that 91 year old Ralph Wilson and his inner circle jerks of today, well on their way to their 10th consecutive playoff - less season, has any realistic chance of pulling off a trade for a linebacker of Merriman's magnitude!?!
apuszczalowski Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Why not, isn't the guy getting injured more often since getting off the juice? He would fit right in on the Bills IR team
PushthePile Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Word is that Merriman could be traded for. Does this have any merit??? Thoughts? Merriman would be a move made by a team that is close to winning. This team can't afford to give up a single draft pick IMO. we should actually be looking to trade our expendable players for more picks.
bdelma Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Non existent tonight aganist Denver. He looks slow!
benderbender Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Move a DB to LB? I don't think a 5'11" 185 pound linebacker would scare opposing offenses
Malazan Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 there's a reason "Star" players are available for a trade
Thoner7 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 there's a reason "Star" players are available for a trade Which would be A) Shaun Phillips, B)Larry English, and C)final year of a contract in which SD does not plan on extending. Trade for him and Derrick johnson. then sign still free agent derrick brooks to one year deal.
H2o Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Smith will ask for entirely too much like he did with Turner and there's not a guarantee that we're getting a guy who would be as effective in a 4-3 defense.
BuffaloBillsMagic1 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Could be worse. We could trade for Merrimen and turn him into a stong saftey........
inkman Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Has anyone in this thread actually watched Merrimen play the last couple of seasons? He's a shell of his former self. Whether it's the roids or the injuries, he's no better than Ashlee Palmer at this point.
