Mr Info
the Flying Squirrels.....WTF....it beat out Rhinos, Flatheads, Rock Hoppers and Hush Puppies. Flatheads and Rock Hoppers at least played on the James River and Iron Works theme....not sure where Rhinos fit in and there are other regions more known for hushpuppies....but Flying Squirrels??????????????????????????????????????????????? Not agreeing with the choice but they are from VA Virginia northern flying squirrel. I'll agree with someone else that if they put the squirrel in a leather jacket, etc., they might be able to come up with an OK image. The images they proposed for the Flatheads and Hushpuppies looked lame. It ended up that Flatheads also carries some negative racial overtones associated with American Indians so it was yanked. They had to do the same with Hambones which was originally proposed as another moniker. The Flying Squirrel has to be better than Diamond Duck (former Richmond Braves mascot). Marv's Neighbor
I wonder what Bullwinkle thinks about that. KEEL MOOSE & SQUIRREL! They play in the "Diamond," a contemporary version of the Rock Pile. The Diamond has "drainage issues" too. The outfield can become swamp-like after a heavy rain.
