olivier in france
It's just that a goal would be nice. Don't know if you get this news over in France, but the White House and Pentagon are talking about another "strategy review" over Afghanistan for, as far as I can tell, determining just what the hell it is we're doing there. Gee, Mr. President...it only took your administration eleven months to decide that you needed to figure out what it is you want to do in Southwest Asia. Mind you, we still don't know what we want to do...we just know that we have to figure it out. That's gotta be worth a whole 'nother Nobel Prize, right? well shouldn't the goal be political stability, democracy and peace for the afghan people? Cheeseburger_in_paradise
And good for them. Still I love how everyone finds it so easy to bash the President. Love the Patriotism. I don't believe anyone here is bashing the president. It's about the Nobel Prize committee. This has become a political award. And that diminishes it, which is sad. GG
Lots of foreign contribution in Afghanistan. The reason it doesn't seem like it is because: 1) logistically, everything basically has to be shipped through US infrastructure, and 2) our news media sucks ****, and only reports it as a US campaign, not an international one. That's why I find the talk about "not enough troops" vaguely silly...we're not the only ones contributing. And out of that numerous foreign troops, how many have been deployed for active combat duty? IDBillzFan
OH BS!! People were overjoyed when Chicago lost the bid especially when Obama became involved. And that is the only reason to. Calling it another failure for him. And read a bit more... the peace prize is now a joke of an award. Saying people were overjoyed when Chicago lost the Olympics is like saying tea party protesters think Obama is Hitler because a camera found a LaRouche guy holding a sign. And newsflash...most people weren't laughing at Obama taking last place at the Olympics. MOST people were laughing at the media reaction after it went out of its way to promote "the dream team" that would "bring home the gold" after Michelle's impassioned story wouldn't leave "a dry eye in the house." THAT'S what MOST people were actually laughing at, much like people today are mocking those who gave the award, not the recipient. (We'll start mocking the recipient when he gives a speech that makes it sound like HE believes he deserves it.) But the left is so clueless as to any criticism it gets, that they immediately make it about Obama because the WH has no idea how to handle things. In fact, I just read that while Joe Scarborough from MSNBC was cracking jokes this morning about the award, the WH emailed him while he was on the air and told him to "stop being an asssshole." A little sensitive, are we?

GG
all the details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coalition_cas..._in_Afghanistan ... which sidesteps the main question. Again, how many are deployed for active forward combat? You will always have combat-related casualties when the troops are deployed anywhere in a hostile environment. However, despite the nicey nice talk by he world how Afghanistan is a global responsibility, the dirty job of forward combat has been shouldered by US & Britain (again). DC Tom
And out of that numerous foreign troops, how many have been deployed for active combat duty? Quite a few. About a month ago, there was a huge controversy in Germany over their commitment of combat troops, after they called in air support (US AF or Navy) in a combat situation that killed a slew of people in violation of German ROE. Canucks, Aussies, Limeys, and Frogs also have a lot of combat troops in-theater. You just don't hear about it because, again...US news media sucks. Bishop Hedd
http://baracksteleprompter.blogspot.com/20...leprompter.html But there are some positive things coming out of this surprise award. Big Guy is actually thinking that now that he's won the Nobel, he might take a call from the Dalai Lama now that theDalai is his almost his equal. I say "almost" because, the Lama won his for bringing world attention to the plight of the Tibetan people. That's not quite as great an effort as the one Big Guy exerted to draw world attention to himself TELEPROMPTOR!......BIRTH CERTIFICATE!......SOCIALISM!.......OLYMPICS!.......NOBEL PRIZE!
