It forged well-rounded citizens. Then along came LBJ, his "Great Society", the libs positively winning the cultural wars of the late '60's and early '70's, the busing which let kids escape the watchful eye of their own neighborhoods, the emergence of today's strong teacher unions (a carefully cultured, reliable voting bloc for the Dems), and so-called parents (the prevalent family unit these days being a female with whatever kids a court awarded custody to - often supported by the taxes of working people) now heaping blame on teachers for their own failings, because they love themselves, their personal entertainment, more than they do their children.
