San Jose Bills Fan Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Yea, if you didnt fully expect a guy like Singletary to turn that team around you are clueless. The 49ers are one rediculous Farve throw from being 4-0. That is one damn good Minn team too, and it took that play to beat the 9ers. A coach like Singletary and a decent Gm could turn this team around by next season. I doubt it happens though. Not so fast Thoner. You can say this in retrospect but if everyone knew what sort of results he would get, wouldn't he have been hired much earlier? In fact Singletary interviewed for the head coaching positions with the Dallas Cowboys and the San Diego Chargers as well as twice at his alma mater, Baylor University. He was passed over in each case. The thing is this. He was a great player. But he has very little experience in coaching. It was incorrectly stated earlier in this thread that he was the 49ers defensive coordinator before being elevated to interim head coach. Actually he was the linebackers coach, and was also Assistant Head Coach. This is Singletary's 7th year in coaching and the only reason he is a head coach is because he got a chance as an interim coach after the firing of Mike Nolan. Right place, right time. Who knows when Singletary would have gotten a chance if Nolan hadn't flopped so miserably?
