Mike in Syracuse Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Look, I'm no Walker homer but the guy should have been kept on the roster and should have been moved back to RT. The RT spot was a revolving door today and as even that fat slob Walker didn't get beat like our current set of drums.
BillsFan74 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 the way we got whipped in the trenches today, he could not be worse.
Flutie Flakes Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 It certainly was clear today why we let Kirk Chambers go. He was terrible today and was directly responsible for three of the six sacks. Agree with other posters that Walker should never have been waived. Time to take a hard look at some free agents including Runyan.
HurlyBurly51 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 That was sure some offseason plan for reshaping the OLine. Not only was it boneheaded to think they could flip Walker, but then they cut him when it doesn't work out. There is no excuse for not keeping him, other than money, even with Butler slated to start. You can't know what injuries will occur, but keeping him as backup to Butler made sense then, and it makes sense now. And someone the other day was questioning the notion that whoever was responsible for the offseason OL plan should be fired?
ThreeBillsDrive Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 it was an obvious salary dump Sadly, that factor seems to weigh more heavily in Bills personnel decisions than in the average team's personnel decisions. And refusing to pay up for a Pro Bowl left tackle and letting him go to Philadelphia ranks among the most questionable offseason decisions
JDG Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 It seems really hard to argue that Langston Walker would not have outperformed Kris Chambers out there today...
spartacus Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 it was an obvious salary dump The Bills ran out of town Peters, Dockery and Walker saving almost $15 milion in salary for 2009 alone and did not spend a single dime of that savings on improving the team. what is Ralph spending the money on??

Well, Terrell Owens for one... And in fairness, as obvious as it is that Langston Walker would be an upgrade over Kris Chambers at Right Tackle tomorrow - Langston Walker is also currently out-of-the-NFL....
apuszczalowski Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Why do people seem to think that just because the Bills cut a player and "saved" some money that it means Ralph has that money just sitting at his home collecting dust? Maybe the reason he cut the player to save money was because it could help keeping the team out of the red? Its not like Buffalo is just rolling in Dough

Its not like Buffalo is just rolling in Dough yes - Buffalo is rolling in the dough in 2009 they are well under the cap and even farther under the cash to cap nonsense they want to play since the big bonus money of Walker and Dockery are in the cap but not the cash flow.

Just because they are under the cap, doesn't mean they have all this free money just laying around. The cap is just a figure that is set by the league, but it doesn't mean that all teams have that amount of cash coming in

The Bills window shop to appease their fan base but don't pull the trigger.

Last time I saw solid numbers, their annual profit is in the neighborhood of $30 million. The TV contract pretty much covers the amount you need to pay the player salaries. It's almost impossible for a team that sells out most/all of their games to not make money.
DanInSouthBuffalo Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Chambers isn't good I'll buy that. I've seen it in print by several NFL writers that they think Walker was very overweight coming into camp. I really don't understand the love-fest for him right no. Do you realize that he is still unemployed? And he's not injured. Doesn't that tell you something?

Ralph does things I don't like, but he has shown that if the team can make the playoffs and is showing real promise, he will spend. He seems to leave it up to the front office/ coaches to get the team together enough to earn his full support. The problem is, none of the staffs have gotten them good enough to really compete.
Thoner7 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Walker is such a funny situation. He should have never been hired AND he should have never been fired. Only in Buffalo

The problem is, none of the staffs have gotten them good enough to really compete. maybe if they had 2 NFL quality OTs, they could compete. but the Bills thinking is all backwards, as usual seems that waiting for NFL castoffs, re-treads and rookies to make you competitive with an inept coaching staff pretty much ensures you won't be spending for the playoff push any time soon.
