nero47
For the young ones, rivalries come and go. A little history may be needed. All four teams in our division were AFL teams, Miami being the last. The patriots* were our first rivalry, with the New york Titans (jets) a close second during the 60's. Miami was an expansion team that we didn't care about until Shula turned them into a Super team in the 70's, during which time we we always fall short, much as we do this decade with the Pats*. During the 80's we were so pathetic through the early years we really didn't have much of a rivalry with anyone. Then the late 80's and 90's arrived, a 12 yr run of success against everyone, especially Miami. Beating Shula and Marino consistently renewedthe rivalry. Payback was sweet. Now we are at the low end trying to remove the dominance of the Pats*, our original rival. Unfortunately we maybe one to two years removed. Don't know about everyone else, but I'm 34, and I HATE MIAMI as much as I ever have. Dan Marino is my least favorite athlete OF ALL TIME still to this day. I watch the ticker to make sure Miami's losing. There used to be a saying that is if the Bills went 2-14, 2-0 against Miami, it was a good year because we would be 2-0 vs the Phins and have the 1st pick in the draft...I believe there's some truth to this statement. If anyone's ever been to a road Miami/Bills game, they hate us down there more than ever before...I went 2 or 3 seasons ago when beast mode made the unreal run from the 2 or 3 yard line to seal the game...I needed a police escort out of the game because I was being rowdy in a Bills jersey and the fans didnt appreciate them remaining 0-for the season...it was great. This rivalry isn't dead, its just sleeping a bit until we play them in a meaningful game in the last quadrant of the season. The Tuna's FAT and Dan Marino....SUCKS!!!!! Go Bills. Chandler#81
Dictionary: rival- 1:competitor 2: peer I/we hated the Dolphins during the 70's because we weren't competitive or their peer. 80's/90's, we were rivals because both teams were very good. 'Hate' was real from a truely competitive angle. It wasn't just an AFC East thing. A couple games between these peers decided who the best team in the conference was, including conference champion. 00's, both teams have sucked -for the most part. Neither competing or powerful peers. No hate. Thus, no current 'rivalry'. I can't get over how benign I am towards them these days. I just want to win games. billsfreak
When the combined record of the two teams after 3 weeks is 1-5, that is a good start to why the rivalry is dead. Also kinda leads one to believe that the game is meaningless to anyone outside Buffalo and Miami too.

I think both the Jets and PAts will lose this week and we will be a game behind. It is far from meaningless.

rstencel
Living in South Florida, let me assure you that down here they stopped caring about Buffalo years ago. The game is about as interesting to them rivalry-wise as a game against the Rams or Chiefs. Buffalo is simply irrelevant...not hated, not thought about, not worthy of dislike, just uninteresting and circled as a presumed win. That's funny, exactly the way we look at the dolphins on the schedule this decade. We swept them 2 years ago, and last year looking at the schedule before played them, most people where expecting another sweep, but happened the other way, they swept us. Since its been pretty much 500 ball between the 2 teams if I am remembering right this decade, its probably going to be another split at worst, as the Dolphins are looking like the worst team in the division at this point, and other than chiefs, browns and raiders, probably the worst team in the AFC. rstencel
Well they were the team to beat last year.... just sayin. No one was saying that in first half of season, when Bills had the good record, and Phins were near the bottom. 2nd half of season they were there, but everyone was still talking Pats till last couple of games. Don't think they ever got the credit of recognition they deserved for the solid season they had, because they weren't really that good of team, lived off the gadget plays, and line play. Most teams looks to have caught up to their gadget offense, so they will have to actually outplay teams to win this year. They have some very good running backs, but aren't great at other skill positions on either side of ball. Would surprise me if they are not picking in top 10 of draft next year. billsfreak
Buffalo's main rivalry is New England. New England's main rivaly isn't Buffalo. Buffalo vs. New England is only a rivalry in Buffalo's eyes. Why would they consider it a rivalry when it has been forever since they have lost to us? The only reason we consider it a rivalry, which it is more of just pure envy, is because they are the only team in the AFC that has done any winning since Moby Dick was a minnow. Go Bills. i dont get it. marino is your least favorite athlete of all time...... he could never do a thing against the bills. like your own statement says if we were 2-14. we won 2 vs fins. i would think you would hate tom brady since he always beats us. about your other opinion. u r right. when i saw a game down there a few years back all the fans were telling me something negative. get lost, losers, ha ha (cuz they won), and my favorite, a classic "u and your sister can go home now" (that sister was/is my wife) i personally dont hate the fins. i just want them to lose pretty bad this weekend. that way i can feel good for a week or so. I've also lived in South Florida for the past several years, and Endzone is spot on. The Bills are often part of the "cheapy" ticket combo packages they put together to entice people to show up. The legitimate "special rivalry" status officially died, I think, right around when Trace Armstrong sacked Flutie down here in the '98-'99 season Wildcard game.
