Endless Ike Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Game #3 of his rookie season, after he missed most of the preseason, and we are already complaining cause he isn't Jason Taylor or Dwight Freeney yet? And he isn't tearing up the league? The defence deserves no blame for this game, they kept Buffalo in the game into the 4th.............. Dwight Freeney had 13 sacks his rookie year...including 3 in his first 3 games
BLZFAN4LIFE Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 Question: What do Rian Lindell, Roscoe Parish, Derek Fine, Demetrius Bell, and Ashlee Palmer have in common with Aaron Maybin? Answer: They all have a total of 1 tackle this season. It's true. Look it up. Actually Derek Fine has a tackle and an assist, so our TE is out-tackling our prized draft pick. You can't make this stuff up!
DDD Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 the few times i actually noticed him was when he was being dominated... That's two weeks in a row now that I have seen him gobbled by the opposing tackle. Not good. Thank goodness Schoebel is playing well. Maybin looks like bust so far. But wait, Modrak has built in excuses like missing camp, and a "project" needing to "bulk-up" in the offseason.
bills_red Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Also he was going up against NO 3rd string LT, and got killed.
billrooter Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Game #3 of his rookie season, after he missed most of the preseason, and we are already complaining cause he isn't Jason Taylor or Dwight Freeney yet? And he isn't tearing up the league? The defence deserves no blame for this game, they kept Buffalo in the game into the 4th.............. Even though would it something to ask for a little procduction out of the 11th pick in the draft, a guy making 5 million a year for what a tackle or so a game?
Doc Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 A rookie in his 3rd game. What was Trent's exuse? Focus your anger where it belongs. As if Maybin getting a sack would have changed anything.
AF88Bills Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 He was getting dominated during run plays right over his spot...ya think the Saints, who actually know how to offensive gameplan, knows that Maybin is a liablity on run plays....all 250 pounds (soaking wet)....all he does is overshoot the QB, trying his dip move, rushing the passer.
Billsguy Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 The defence deserves no blame for this game, they kept Buffalo in the game into the 4th.............. The defense showed glimpses of improvement until they got totally blown out in the 4th quarter! TOTALLY BLOWN OUT! Where did they go? They were probably disheartened by the lack of coaching leadership and the anemic offense. Does anybody else realize that the Bills probably have the weakest (or at least bottom 3 ) linebacker corps in the league?Just pitiful LB's. And finally Dick Jauron is pathetic. Down by two scores with about 7+ minutes left in the game and he punts with short yardage to go? WTF!
GrudginglyOptimistic Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Absolutely the defense gets no blame from me. However Maybin's lack of...anything does raise a legit question. Maybin has been more ineffective than I could ever have dreamed. Meanwhile, last season's 3rd round pick, Chris Ellis has yet to suit up for a game even though he showed improvement throughout preseason. Doesn't Ellis deserve a chance to play? And isn't it the obligation of the organization to evaluate him under regular season conditions, especially when the person in front of him is not producing? Surely they now know what they have with Maybin right now, regardless of how he turns out in the future. But unless Ellis gets to play in a regular season game this year, how can they really evaluate his value on the roster? We're fans so basically any question is legit (or drug induced and in that case should be looked at with amusement rather than anger. However, there are legit answers to this legit question. Among them are: 1. In his third game as a rookie after missing most of pre-season it is just about simply silly to even expect much less demand that he performs like a star. Even if he did (or does in a game in the first half of this season) likely the best explanation for this is dumb luck rather than anyone declaring him a for sure star in the NFL. Just as it would be pretty rational to discount any great performances he might have at this point, it also is pretty rational not to get worried if he has not starred yet. Of course on the other hand, we are fans so no one should expect us to be rational about this. 2. Overall, the lead bit of irrationality among us fans is the conventional wisdom that a 1st round choice should be a starter in his first year (or a clear star by game 3 despite missing major parts of camp as reality says Maybin has), The fact is that even with a strong draft class a few years back only slightly more than half the first round players were listed #1 on their teams depth charts at the beginning of their second season, And this is a sample biased toward talented choices. The fact pretty much is only a little more than 50% of players chosen in round 1 are going to be starters by the end of the first year (much less game 3). There is a heavy bias toward these starters coming from the first 10 picks and Maybin at #11 just misses this threshold. It simply pushes reality to expect or demand stardom from Maybin by game 3, but we are fans so who says we are rational. 3. Maybin was not a star in this game in anyone's book, but he did have a reasonable outing today as an important part of a Bills DL rotation which held the NFLs highest scoring team to 10 points going after roughly 3 quarters of play. The big D problem tonight was that they got eaten alive on the run in the 4th, but given that they got zero help from the (the 7 points were produced by the ST on a fake punt) its hard to go too ballistic on the D for finally breaking down in the 4th. These are the legit reasons that answer your legit (given that we fans are gonna be irrational) question you asked.
C.Biscuit97 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Let's cut him. He is obviously a huge bust.
BillnutinHouston Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Was Maybin really in the DL rotation? The only time I saw him was standing next to DJ on the sideline.
Alaska Darin Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Every time I see Maybin I'm reminded we passed on Oher.
pBills Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Has anyone heard from Maybin? Is he injured? So many of you were convinced that he was the next Jason Taylor or Dwight Freeney. Just wondering when we can expect to hear the 11th overall pick's name mentioned during a game. Give me a break. He missed a lot of camp and now is playing now and then in the first three games of his rookie year. Again, give me a break.
John Adams Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Has anyone heard from Maybin? Is he injured? So many of you were convinced that he was the next Jason Taylor or Dwight Freeney. Just wondering when we can expect to hear the 11th overall pick's name mentioned during a game. Most tackles have been blocking him with one or two hands, fully extended. He is weak and if he's ever ready to be a D-lineman, it won't be this year.
Boolay Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Has anyone heard from Maybin? Is he injured? So many of you were convinced that he was the next Jason Taylor or Dwight Freeney. Just wondering when we can expect to hear the 11th overall pick's name mentioned during a game. Because this is the NFL and not Penn State playing against Temple with a 40 point lead. There was a reason that he wasn't a starter until injuries made him one. Poz _ Maybin = Busts.
Thoner7 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Its funny how the 220lb DE is not as quick as the 250lb DE. Who would have known that weight and quickness are directly related
