Last week's 4th-and-1 thread was pretty active - this one has just a wee bit potential as well.

The situation: 4-and-1, down by 10, less than 8 mins to go, ball on own 28.

Thoughts?

By the feel of the game, I thought they should have went for it. You could see your D was starting to tire and falter, and New Orleans was able to start really running the ball on us, but Jauron, since he has no "feel" for the game, let alone his own team decides to put the tired D on the field instead of trying to convert...

The defense had been phenomenal all day and the Bills OLine was too atrocious to rely on.

I'd have probably punted and played to get the ball back.

A poor punt by Moorman didn't help matters any.

If you punt, you lose. You line up up and pound the ball.

And if you are so confident in your defense, let them hold NO to a FG if you don't make it, you'll still be down by two scores either way. Absolutely mind boggling that he punted there.

hanggartner is NOT HEALTHY. combine that with 2 back up tackles where were thin to start with and our o line officially sucks sht right now. trent is playing badly as well, but the oline is garbage ATM.

It wasn't even 4 and 1...it was 4 and 1/2....and the defense ewas tired...the team was down by at least 2 possessions....everything pointed to trying to go for it.

They didn't go for it, for the same reason they thriw a 4 yd pass when they need 10 yds on third down...they just don't get it.

The game was over after Trent overthrew TO. It sucked the life out of the entire team.

If one incompletion can deflate an entire team, they aren't worth a turd anyways.

Exactly right. Also QB sneak probably easily gets first down.

I thought the punt on 4th and 1 was the final nail in the coffin on this game. The D was dead tired, that was our last gasp to try and get some momentum. Just a horrible, weak, scared decision.

well, jeez, who woulda saw that one.

for someone on the hotseat, you would think Jauron wouldn't have dealt with 100% turnover on the O-line...that's correct 100%. and 3 guys who never even played an NFL down

You go for it. Show what we're made of. Start to form a positive identity for the team. Perform calculated risks. If our team won't risk it when it needs to, then we're in for a long season. Play to win, not to keep from losing. that's my 2 cents. Always play smart and aggressively.

The throw was the straw that broke the camels back. You can only count on your defense to completely shut down the best offense in football for so long.
