But one interesting way to challenge it....

 

You have to pay the tax somehow. Why not pay it in person? By paying it in person you could drive to Albany

 

Syracuse to Albany, according to Google Maps is 144 miles so 288 miles round trip

 

IRS allows .55 per mile

 

.55 * 288 = $158.4

 

Give them their $50 and request reimbursement of $158.40
