BTW, it's weird how some things survived the re-install and others didn't. I had that Nero program that those Jackasses won't give me the registry for and other programs that wouldn't come up. I have Sonic to edit movies and to burn CD's. That survived without the registry. They told me to check my software box and since it came with the computer there isn't a software box for it. However, when I went into the about this version thing the registry number was listed there and I was able to bring it back up.

I had a program called Picasa for pictures and I think it was free on the internet. I didn't have to register it and when I opened it for the first time after the crash every photo that had been on computer before the crash came up and I was able to put them into separate files in my picture folder. I don't understand how some crap survives and other crap doesn't. At least some of my stuff is recoverable!

Have you checked out your printer driver cd(s)? I've an older Samsung laser printer, as well as a Canon inkjet multi-function job. Both of them had Nero, Adobe, etc. toss-ins on their driver cds.

I'm glad I found this external hard drive. It solves my biggest fear about having the backup on site w/ my desktop.

ioSafe Solo

You can get it from the Costco website w/ an extra year of data recovery for $279.99

Why are these things selling so cheaply?

They're cheap because that model is discontinued. You can get a newer model with wi-fi but it will cost you more

I have used the 8 port version of that router since 2001. So they are reliable.

Thanks, I don't use wifi so that's no big deal. Thanks again.
