toddgurley Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Well with Brad Butler out for the season, the Bills now have a whole to fill on their O-line again. Who would you like the Bills to sign or who do you want to fill this pretty big void?
Fixxxer Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I would like us to sign Runyan but keep Scott as the starter for now. Then if Runyan is superior, play him.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 There's a few things I like about the idea of adding Jon Runyan. Firstly he's known for his intelligence and he's very experienced. Those are the exact ingredients that the Bills are placing a premium on right now. On a line starting four rookies (J. Scott was on the practice squad last year), that will be very valuable, especially in games against teams like the Jets who have elaborate blitz packages. Secondly he's a mauler and a force in the running game. The Bills are showing signs that they will be an excellent running team. We're 5th in the NFL in rushing yards per game and 3rd in yards per carry. If we added Runyan to this group we would finally have that component that so many of us have yearned for for so long...the ability to impose our will on the opposing defense and cram the ball down there throats. Against teams which like to tee off on the quarterback, this is the best medicine...avoid getting into obvious passing situations by running the ball effectively on early downs. It's neanderthal football but in November and December, it's this type of ability that would make the Bills very tough to play against. And every year we have bad weather games which make passing very difficult (Cleveland, New England). I for one would like for the Bills to be able to play smash-mouth football whenever it is needed.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 As a postscript to the above, how sweet would it be to have Runyan in the lineup and be able to play Miami/Parcells twice this season and beat his ass using his own style of power football? It would be great if someday the phrase "Buffalo Bills type football" was synonymous with physically beating the crap out of your opponent.
