JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Honestly there seemed to be less of a buzz about this year's event. Not as many people posting about it, making plans known, etc. I'm curious to know what people's thoughts are on this. We put alot of effort into this event and it would help to know if there truely is not as much interest as in years past. If not, why not? Team Performance? Economy? Novelty is gone? The loss of some "regulars"? Conflicts with other tailgates? Lack of group tickets? Something about the board? Please chime in on this if you have an opinion.
SDS Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Before we get into that, let me just say that this year's tailgate, while maybe fewer in numbers, was absolutely incredible and ranks as one of the best we ever had! The addition of the band this year really changed the dynamics and they were awesome! The guitarist was fun, energetic, engaging, and he really knew how to play to the crowd. I would recommend them any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Between the band, the ribs, the wings, the big 2'x6' grill for everyone to use, the beautiful weather, Hammer taking care of every last detail, and a flawless tent/raffle/t-shirt/silent auction execution - I couldn't be happier with how this one turned out. For those who missed it because of apathy - shame on you! I couldn't imagine what you did on Sunday that was a better time than what was going on at Hammer's Lot! I'll be posting pictures and video later when I get caught up with life. While I too want to understand the dynamics of shifting attendance, I don't want it to damper the fact that yesterday was an incredible time and it has really got my wheels going on how we could possibly top this next year!

BuffaloBill Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I will look to attend next year. Being relatively "new" to the board I did not make plans for this year. Hate that I mssed it.
Golden Wheels Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I was disappointed to miss the opener and the TBD tailgate. It's always a fun event. But I couldn't attend Tailgate X for economic reasons along with the fact that I didn't have vacation time to spare from work because of a stint on short-term disability earlier this year. It had nothing to do with the organizing or location of the event, which is always terrific. I have the feeling the crappy economy was a factor for others as well. If I'm still employed next year (knock on wood), you bet I'm coming. I miss seeing TBDers. Best group to see a football game with.
Glass To The Arson Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I had a headache and a half so it wasn't the greatest. Next week I'm staying completely sober so I can scream louder for the 12th man!

Buffal0 Bill5 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I got held up getting on the road. Walked onto Hammer's lot just as the band wrapped up their last song. Better luck next year.
Steve O Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 You took our normal spot in the hammer lot and hammer told us not to bring a stereo because of the band. Nice job but someone should tell he band Freebird is a song to close with, not open. Anyways thanks for the tunes, saved us some set up/break down time.

We've been in the same spot for 10 years. When they played "Freebird" they were making a joke...
cåblelady Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I thouroughly enjoyed my hugs....... And the t-shirts were beyond sweet!
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I didn't go because of the time factor. Took a vacation at the end of August, so I didn't have the time to take today off. Had the game been a 1PM start, I would have come up and attended. Also, seems like a lot of the folks I've tailgated with in the past seem not to be attending any more. Dunno.

If you remember correctly (and I'm always right) where your tent was set up was in the area where your group first tailgated. I only moved you to the other area because I'm a nice guy.
rockpile Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Ummm... normal spot? We've been in the same spot for 10 years. When they played "Freebird" they were making a joke... They were warming up some chords from Sweet Home Alabama and I shouted for them NOT to play Freebird, but they did anyway. Good joke. Another thing to consider, being a 4PM game gave us all day to "mingle". Sometimes with an early game everything seems rushed. Thanks to ALL. Best Tailgate ever!!!
The Tomcat Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I got to sign the wall and everything! Nice job on the tailgate. I wish I had hit the Stromboli earlier in the tailgate..... Are there t-shirts left???
