Big Turk Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Russell is 4 of 19 for 61 yards against KC...
NorCal Aaron Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I watched the whole game. He can throw 100 yard spirals, but has absolutely no touch or feel for the game. Overthrows short, long and everything in between. A marginal athlete with a ten cent head. Sacked himself late in the game. Only the Raiders would have paid this clown the ducats he stole. He makes decent receivers look way bad. Chiefs had the ball the whole game up and down the field and gave to the Raiders in the end.

Max997 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 i dont know who was a worse 1st overall pick, him or Alex Smith
billsfan89 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Russell is 4 of 19 for 61 yards against KC... Trent Edwards drafted in the third round that year has out played first round QB's Brady Quinn and Russell (Not that they are that much competition)
NorCal Aaron Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 i dont know who was a worse 1st overall pick, him or Alex Smith Definitely UnreMarkus. Smith, under the right regime, could have been serviceable. He was abused, rolled in bacon fat and thrown to the wolves by the Niners. He played tough like a good soldier with a shredded shoulder and horrible protection then became Nolan the Suit's alibi for a lousy team and coaching that reeked like urine.
Hossage Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 He played well when he came here last year.
Big Turk Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 He played well when he came here last year. I would exactly call 9 of 19(47%) "good", but I guess for him that really is good, considering in 2 games this year he is 19 for 54(35%)
Mark Vader Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Trent Edwards drafted in the third round that year has out played first round QB's Brady Quinn and Russell (Not that they are that much competition) Let's not forget Kevin Kolb & John Beck, also drafted before Trent.
Tcali Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Russell is 4 of 19 for 61 yards against KC... and the raiders really arent a bad team. imagine if they had a QB to go with all that talent.
Max997 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Let's not forget Kevin Kolb & John Beck, also drafted before Trent. how bad was that QB class?....with the exception of Trent of course
Steve O Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 how bad was that QB class?....with the exception of Trent of course Not sure if that is a rhetorical question...numbers are round, pick in round, overall pick 1 1 1 JaMarcus Russell Raiders Louisiana State 1 22 22 Brady Quinn Browns Notre Dame 2 4 36 Kevin Kolb Eagles Houston 2 8 40 John Beck Dolphins Brigham Young 2 11 43 Drew Stanton Lions Michigan State 3 29 92 Trent Edwards Bills Stanford 4 4 103 Isaiah Stanback Cowboys Washington 5 14 151 Jeff Rowe Bengals Nevada 5 37 174 Troy Smith Ravens Ohio State 6 31 205 Jordan Palmer Redskins Texas-El Paso 7 7 217 Tyler Thigpen Vikings Coastal Carolina
San Jose Bills Fan Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I watched the whole game. He can throw 100 yard spirals, but has absolutely no touch or feel for the game. I'm not a big fan of JaMarcus Russell either. But in JaMarcus' defense, it should be noted that because of injury, the two starting wide receivers have been rookies Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy. And his 3 years in the league, he's had two head coaches and two offensive coordinators. Like Alex Smith with the Niners, Russell hasn't exactly been put in a favorable position.
Jim in Anchorage Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Comparing the Bills to the Raiders is NOT a good idea. Looking back at the last decade first round picks is a painful process for the Raider Nation. However, with this year's iteration of the NFL Draft less than two weeks away, it is time to take a look back. 2008 #4 Darren McFadden RB Coming into the draft, the buzz was centered around Darren McFadden's speed and playmaking ability. It is too early to make a call on him. However, he did not make much of an impression his rookie year, losing time to a turf toe injury. 2007 #1 JaMarcus Russell QB Russell got off to a rough start with the Raider Nation, as he was involved in a contract holdout that kept him off the roster until the day before the opening game. He has been more miss than hit, and if he doesn't start turning it around in 09, the word bust will be thrown around freely. 2006 #7 Michael Huff S Huff lost his starting position to Hiram Eugene midway through 2008. He has been labeled a bust, and managed to do that the old fashioned way, he has earned it. He started out doing well covering the top tight ends in the division, but went downhill from there. he has issues in coverage and with tackling. 2005 #23 Fabian Washington CB Washington was decidedly average during his time in Oakland. The Raiders traded him for a fourth round pick during the 2008 draft. 2004 #2 Robert Gallery OT Gallery had a rough start, but has become the poster boy for reclamation projects, as he has emerged as one of the top offensive guards under Tom Cable's tutelage. 2003 #31 Nnamdi Asomugha DB At that time Aso was an unknown, and was widely derided as a 'reach.' However, he has since emerged as an elite cover cornerback. 2003 #32 Tyler Brayton DE Brayton was moved between defensive end and linebacker, but did not excel as either. He walked as a free agent after the 07 season. 2002 #17 Phillip Buchanon DB Buchanon was an electric returner, but a lousy cover corner. He rapidly earned the nickname P-Burnt before he was traded on draft day in 2005. 2002 #23 Napoleon Harris LB Harris emerged as a rookie, and replaced the veteran Greg Biekert. He could not sustain that success, and he was traded to Minnesota in 2005 as part of the trade to bring Randy Moss to the Raiders. 2001 #28 Derrick Gibson DB Gibson was lousy in coverage and a below average tackler. He is now out of football. 2000 #17 Sebastian Janikowski K This move became an instant punchline, and has caused much consternation among the Raider Nation in the ensuing years. However, Janikowski has become the all time leader in scoring by a Raider, and has cornered the market on the longest field goals in Raider history.
No QB - No Bueno Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I'm not a big fan of JaMarcus Russell either. Playing for the Raiders puts any player at a developmental disadvantage, probably more so at the quarterback position. In Russell's case, inexperienced receivers aren't the problem. His horrible accuracy is. He's just what Davis ordered, a one trick mortar.
ganesh Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Definitely UnreMarkus. Smith, under the right regime, could have been serviceable. Agreed...And in fact Smith had a career season when Norv Turner was the OC....Unfortunately for him the 49ers could keep Norv only for that season....And it has been a down spiral since then for Smith.

That's awful.
