Simon Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Do you really think Ben Watson is running down the deep middle isolated with an emergency dime LB if hte Bills were in a prevent?! They spent both the last two drives doing what they'd been doing all game. And on that second to last drive they were doing exactly what they should have been doing. Forcing NE to burn clock and make a bunch of different plays to score. What they really needed at that point was to force the Pats to run another 4-5 plays before they got their score, instead of giving up a 20 yard TD pass to an under-defended deep middle. If anything the Bills should have been even MORE conservative at that point in that game. So quit yer crying about the Prevent, cuz they weren't even really running it when they likely should have been.
Magox Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Ya, I was hoping for another 3-4 more plays to burn clock on that first drive as well. Jaworski called it, right before they scored the TD he said that they should be looking for something up the middle and next play BAM!!! TouchDown up the middle
scoring is not hardy Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 People are trying to explain this loss based on their preconceived ideas of the team. If they thought the coaching sucked BEFORE the game, then that is why we lost. In reality it was a freak loss. McKelvin appeared to be protecting the ball well, it just came out. !@#$ happens. I think this loss could be a real positive and cement this team together. I like this teams character, they are all heart. I don't care what anyone says, I have a man crush on Donte Whitner and I wear his jersey proudly. I don't think anyone in this league could care more or bring it harder. How many times did Brady test him deep?

Best there is in my opinion.
Sig1Hunter Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Right after he said "The deep middle is there for the taking", I found the words "Thanks a lot, Jaws" coming out of my mouth.

How many times did Brady test him deep? Donte Whitner is terrible. In fact both he and Scott can not cover anybody over the deep middle. On the touchdown with two minutes left both safety's never even moved. They are worthless in coverage. Then on the winning touchdown, Keith Ellison was no match for Watson. He is just too small to cover him. But of course there was no safety help. I thought the team was prepared to play and the coaching was solid. The Bills problem is we are very weak at LB and Safety. We have been for years. Hopefully Nick Harris and Jarius Byrd will be an improvement eventually. But Mitchell, Ellison, Scott and Whitner should not be starting against teams that pass the ball all the time. They are just not athletic enough to make plays. And for Whitner to have been picked 8th with his very marginal athleticism is a joke.

And the LB core is getting lambasted when it was our Free Safety who needed to be there to break BOTH of Watson's catches up.

The split safeties both had outside responsibility for the Wide Receivers. If either of them shaded towards the middle of the field, he'd have been out of position in that defense and screwing the CB whose back he was supposed to have.

The Donte hate is ridiculous and embarrassing. Yeah, lets give Ellison help over the top on the TE and leave the all world WR's single covered on the outside
K-9 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Agreed. And the LB core is getting lambasted when it was our Free Safety who needed to be there to break BOTH of Watson's catches up. WRONG!!! Both scoring plays were to Scott's half of the field. Learn the fricken game a bit more or stop making stuff up. Don't believe me, go to NFL.com and look at both scoring plays again. Watson ran the seam down Scott's half. Whitner would have to have been Superman to get over to that side of the field fast enough. In fact, most of Brady's damage was done to Scott's half most of the evening. Give me a break. GO BILLS!!!
Sig1Hunter Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Pretty sure it was Jairus Byrd (#31) that was out there at safety on the GW TD.

According to Matt Bowen (ex bill) they were in "red 2" as opposed to cover 2 defense. See link in earlier thread and be enlightened. perfect throw required by Brady and he made it both times.
John from Riverside Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 The bills were not playing like they were afraid of losing To me this is a positive
Dwight Drane Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Last night's gameplan shows that Jauron ball CAN work against a superior opponent. They did the right thing....Bellichek was frustrated even as NE moved the ball because the clock was clicking down like torture. The Bills win the game 90% of the time if McKelvin doesn't fumble.

Hint: it has something to do with the safeties. GO BILLS!!!

Yea, because its not like the Tampa two differs from the cover two because the LB covers the deep middle or anything....
