AnthonyF Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 What is wrong with our 2-minute offense? Isn't that what the no huddle essentially is? TE completes a 20 yarder to TO, at the 40 and ridiculously calls a timeout. There should have been at least 2 plays called in the huddle, and the Bills catch NE off guard and don't allow them to line up and pin their ears back to go after Edwards. Easily had time after the TO catch to run a play in 5 seconds and keep the timeout. Instead TE get's sacked 2 straight plays. Pathetic all around. Also when NE recovers with 2:00 minutes, I use the timeouts, knowing NE has 3 anyways and if they score the Bills want time on the clock. The best thing that happened (expecting them to score) was that there were still 51 seconds left. Explain how coaching can not be blamed???
AnthonyF Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 Has no one talked about those 2 sacks and timeouts in the last 45 seconds? They were at the 40 yard line with 37 seconds to go and were inept.... That is what drove me nuts.... Yes I was surprised at the McKelvin fumble, but expected NE to score. Why do you not call timeouts and have your defense set, and save time that you may need. No matter what NE needed to score that possession to win. As the D, they needed to be organized. Why do all coaches let the clock go, especially when NE had 3 timeouts. Notice how they wanted to clock to run and were in no hurry to score. I think NE was worried they scored too quick.
zow2 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I thought if the situation was reversed.....NE being on their own 40 w/ :37 seconds left, they would have easily gotten into reasonable FG range. That was plenty of time for the Bills O to get inside their 40. The difference is Brady. You just can't downplay that. I'm not saying Trent played poorly....i thought he had a very competent game last night. He's just not at the juncture in his career where he can calmly utilize the weapons at his disposal. He needed to sidestep some pressure and know exactly what he wanted to do w/ the ball. It's a shame b/c I thought with all the no huddle practice througout the game, our 2-minute offense would be really prepared,,,NOT. I can't feel sorry for the Bills or their fans because our team HAD the chance to win at the end and blew it. Now we've seen Dallas, Cleveland and New England make the most of their chances and Buffalo blows their chance as usual.
scoring is not hardy Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 The deck was stacked against us at that point. I'm excited about our young o-line but I just knew it was going to end badly with a couple sacks. Right now their strength is being very athletic, not blocking for 5 seconds. If we just had a little more time we could have thrown another screen into the mix, or went underneath a couple times.

No, the difference is that when NE is driving for their two late scores the Bills couldn't get pressure on Brady but when Buffalo had the ball at the end of the game Edwards was sacked 2 plays out of 4. Think back to the Giants Superbowl win against NE. At the end of the game, when Brady had the ball and was trying to drive NE to a score, the Giants D put him on his back. I remember one vicious sack and a couple of hurries out of 4 or 5 plays. That's how you close a team out and win a close game.

Very good point, as this was the main problem with the D in the 2nd half....no QB pressure
vincec Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Very good point, as this was the main problem with the D in the 2nd half....no QB pressure Unfortunately, I think that the DL just got worn down. Losing Kelsay from the rotation didn't help. Another thing that I thought was interesting is that the ho huddle is supposed to wear the OPPONENTS defensive line down, but on that last drive the NE linemen were flying.
Bills Fan888 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Our whole team plays poorly during the last 2 minutes. For me after the fumble I knew the Bills would lose. You just expect the Pats to score a TD.

I've been saying this for years (along with the need to TRULY upgrade the O-line). We're halfway there.
