I really hope we sign him, but I fear I agree with the rest of you that he is using this as a ploy to get more by going to 2 teams in Buffalo and the Chiefs with serious need, it forces the Eagles to overpay. I don't think Runyan will be chomping at the bit to play with T.O. again either

Is he that bad? I didn't watch much preseason (I had better things to do).

He looked very weak on passing downs.

Here's how the Bills could "pre-empt" the competition. Offer him a guaranteed contract that puts him on the roster for opening day. All the other teams are presumably avoiding doing that as it would guarantee his contract for the season.

If he passes our physical, the Bills could take the risk and sign him to a guaranteed contract...a risk the other teams are most likely trying to avoid.

It's a possibility, but it seems to me that the big risk with Runyan is that he'll wind up on IR, since I don't really see anybody finding a better tackle midway through the year to replace him with. In this case (if he goes on IR), whoever signs him ends up eating his contract anyway, right?

It has been reported that TO had many friends in the locker room everywhere he played. I think that is the reason Dallas cut him. TO had many players on his side of the Tony/TO debacle & Jerry wanted to try & unite the locker room.

Is Runyan, with his injury history, any better than Butler? Butler's never going to make a pro bowl or anything, but he's a pretty fundamentally solid tackle.

Brad Butler: 0 NFL starts at OT

Jon Runyan: 192 starts at OT

Granted, JR is older and coming off microfracutre surgery. But he's been cleared to play. This is precisely the sort of move the Bills make to avert all the negative discussion going on right now, so long as the guy will come cheap.

He's a name player, but the Bills seem more interested in winning the PR battle than the one on the field.

There are three other teams that want him beside the Bills. If he can move & keep up with the Bills line in the No huddle, Runyon at RT & Butler at RG would look pretty good.

Looks very good to opposing DC's, I'd imagine. Nothing is better than aged OL vet spending the last six years in the NFC coming in 3 days before season start, I 'd say...

If the Bills sign him, it will be looked at as desperate, and further retooling of the line.

If the Bills don't sign him, it will be looked at as a failure of the front office.

Oh God please no. He's washed up, a has been. He was good in his day, but his better one's are behind him. We need to look to the future, not some old vet looking to pass his days on our roster. The last time I saw him play the Giants he was getting killed by the Giants Dlinemen and Mcnabb was running for his life. I'll take my chances with our two young tackles and Butler. Langston Walker was a top 10 RT, if they needed a RT they should have put him back there. Runyan is not a LT as Walker was also not a LT.
