Bills/Jags DVD available (finally)

Hi All,

I've (finally) completed the Jacksonville Jaguars game on DVD. While the outcome of the game wasn't what we had hoped, it was the annual TBD Tailgate and was the season opener for the 2004 season. We got to see McGahee's first regular-season carries in the NFL and Lee Evan's first receptions (plus the faces that post on the board).

The DVD includes the game, the DirecTV highlights for the game, as well as DirecTV highlights from the Titans/Dolphins game (at least there's some good news! :D ). It also includes many PC-only features,

such as box score, drive summaries, and best of all - pictures from the Tailgate! (thanks to everyone who donated their pictures to the cause).

This game, as all others, costs $1 + $4 shipping. I can now ship 8 games in one package, so if you want others, add them in. Buying 6 games would cost $10. Buying 8 games would cost $12.

Tips are accepted, but not required

The other games that are available:

Bills/Oilers "Comeback" game ('93)

Bills/Dolphins "Snow Bowl" game ('02)

Bills/Patriots "31-0" game (week 1, '03)

Bills/Jaguars "37-14" game (week 2, '03)

Bills/Broncos "WM and JPL" game (preseason, '04)

Bills/Titans game (preseason, '04)

Bills/Jags "TBD Tailgate" game (week 1, '04)

Still working on other projects, such as the "Sounds of the Game" (for the Broncos preseason), the Bills/Dolphins, Bills/Cardinals, and Bills/Jets games of this season, plus a few extra things. These all take a lot of time though, so have patience please. (or donate a new PC to me so that it doesn't take 28 hours to render the 2.5 hour game... ).

If anyone's interested, let me know via email or PM.

... is that 1 game per DVD? (I am thinking Christmas gifts)

Thanks!

Yes it is. However, in order to ship 6 DVDs in one priority mail envelope, I use thin DVD cases that can hold two disks. So if you wanted 6 games, it'd come in 3 DVD cases. Something to think about for gifts :D

Chris, you should think about getting a DVD label maker. You can get a pro one that prints diretly onto the DVD for several hundred, or one that makes labels that stick on (with a centering tool - really easy to use - I have one) for $20. Makes em look REALLY sharp.

Detox - thanks for the kudos. :)

Steve - I've thought about that. However, there's two problems. First, I'd have to raise the cost back up to $2 (or around there) to cover ink costs (I only charge materials costs, that's why it's only $1 right now). The second (more serious) problem is that I'm not the best graphics designer in the world. Actually, I kinda suck... So I don't think I could do more than just put "Bills vs Jags" on the DVD cover. Not sure if that's worth it...

Plus, I'd hae to use my current crop of blank DVD-R media (Ritek) because it's a non-printable surface and you're never supposed to put stickers on a DVD - it can make the disk unreadable.

This printer is supposed to work pretty well for printing on DVDs:

Graphics?

Just put a small Bills helmet on one side and a jags on the other (sides of the hole i mean) and use a fancy font to print "Buffalo Bills vs Jacksonville Jags September, XX, 2004"...

I've put labels on many of the DVDs i have "made backup copies for" and hasnt been an issue. But i have heard that before. I'll leave it to a new wive's tale for now.

How much of a discount off of $1/disk are you looking for?! Sheesh!

Not sure what you mean about "once the whole thing is completed." It'll always be (roughly) $1/game until I go through my latest batch of blank DVDs and buy more (I'm assuming by then, the cost may be less than $1/disk, maybe not though). But since I can't get more than 6 games into a package (maybe I could, but it'd be cramming 'em in), I'm guessing every 6 games will always be $10 (+optional tip :) ).

DirecTV Brother:  How is the quality for the Houston Comeback game?  I remember one time you saying it wasn't very good....thanks!

114811

It's not good based on MY standards... But I'm relatively picky. Everyone who has received a copy of it has said they think it looks great, considering it's from a '93 tape.

Here's some screen captures:

http://www.fezam.com/gallery/view_album.ph...Comeback&page=1

Specifically, these two show the pixelation:

http://www.fezam.com/gallery/view_photo.ph...=reich_passing1

http://www.fezam.com/gallery/view_photo.ph...=reich_passing3

Keep in mind this looks worse on a monitor than it will on a regular TV (although I'm not sure how it will look on an HDTV).

Low motion looks very good:

There's also some post-game interviews, pictures, etc, that I grabbed off the web and stuck on the disk.

Fez, what's the difference between putting a label on one side and actually printing on it?  It shouldn't matter.

115334

From what I've read, putting the full label on it can both disbalance the disk and eat through the protective coating (with the glue); you're basically putting a peice of paper with a chemical on top of the disk. Since the DVD needs to spin at very fast speeds, any foreign object on teh disk can make it wobble, thus making it unreadable. Also, the glue can eat through the plastic and damage it as well.

On the opposute side, if you have a disk that's designed to be printed on, you're putting a very thin layer on ink on it and that's it.

I've read plenty of people complain about it on USENET; never experienced it myself because I havn't done anything with it.

Here's a few links I found:

http://tinyurl.com/4clvm

http://tinyurl.com/5bj3k

And even more definitive, Pioneer themselves says not to use labels as it may unbalance the disk and even damage the drive:

Ok, I've caught up with the DVD requests. Send me a PM if you're interested.

I'll be working on the "Sounds of the Game" next I think. I figure that'll be more interesting than the Dolphins, Cards, or Jets game right now.

Keep in mind that you can always check the Trading Post for posts about the DVDs as well.

EDIT: I've changed the original post to indicate that I can actually send 8 games out in one package. Just tested it and, although it's tight, it works.
