UB2SF Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 It was interesting watching the first airing of the Detroit game on NFL Network, given that it was after cut-down day and therefore was potentially a window into the coaches' roster decisions. Since the decision to keep Ashlee Palmer over Bowen was a bit of a surprise, I decided to key in on him during the game. I came away pretty impressed. Like Nic Harris, the guy is aggressive, fast, instinctive, and rangey. The play that really stood out for me was Detroit's running play on 2nd & goal. Palmer read the play at the snap, quickly shed the block from the fullback, took the perfect angle to head the RB off at the pylon, outraced the RB to the pylon, and delivered a bone-crushing hit which separated the ball from the ball-carrier. One of the best plays of the night from our D. Our LB corps has had so little depth for the past couple years -- it's encouraging to see flashes from Palmer and Harris.
Red Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I would agree wholeheartedly. Nic Harris has impressed me with his range, speed, intensity, and ability since the 1st preseason game. Palmer impressed me as being very similar to Harris. Its about time some hungry depth was on this team.
BillsGuyInMalta Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Palmer was thought of pretty highly in the draft magazines. They didn't have him as a top prospect, but all of the ones I read had him going in the mid rounds. I know the few camp visits I had this season, Palmer was all over the place breaking up passes.

Yeah, its' great to see Palmer make the team despite playing great in the preseason. Too bad we can't say the same for Copeland Bryan and Jon Stupar, huh? At least Stupar made the practice squad.
tombstone56 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 NICK HARRIS WAS EXTREMELY GOOD IN COLLEGE ,,, LABELED A TWEENER ,TO BIG FOR A NFL SAFETY ,TOO SMALL AS A LINEBACKER ... IMO THOUGH HE IS GOING TO BE A STARTER BY END OF THIS SEASON , HIS COVERAGE SKILLS ARE WAY ABOVE AVERAGE WITH A LITTLE MORE SIZE AND EXSPERIENCE AT THIS LEVEL AND THE SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR HIM ..

bladiebla Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Lot's of shouting Thing is NFL is a big step up speed wise from college; he isnt too big for an NFL Safety; he's too slow. The instincts are clearly there, hopefully he can bulk up and become a great LB.

bladiebla Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 he looks as small as ellison 6-1 decent enough size I'd say.
Big Turk Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I wasn't too surprised to see Palmer make the team---Paul Hamilton had been saying all training camp that the Bills really liked him and he had been making a lot of plays...he also was surprised Bowen wasn't better, saying he would have likely taken Ellison's starting job last year if he hadn't gotten hurt...thought he might still be having some struggles with his knee... I would love to see Nic Harris take Ellison's job...he seems to have good instincts and a nose for the ball...he also is bigger than Ellison and would likely not be erased as easily...

Hossage Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I was convinced after the hall of fame game that he is an NFL linebacker. He has all the physical tools, good instrincts, sheds blocks, tackles well and appears to play with intensity so far.
ThereIsNoDog Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 As per usual, it will probably take injury for these guys to get onto the field this year.
Jim in Anchorage Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 A football player named Ashlee? I hope she's eating.
ThereIsNoDog Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 BTW, I recall seeing on BB.com that Palmer was 6'1" and 223# when he was signed by the Bills. But the BB.com website now lists him at 236#. That's a more respectable weight. I wonder how much more he can gain? The same goes for Harris, who is 6'2" and 232#.

Thurman#1 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Those 3 pounds did it for ya Um, look again, that's 13 pounds.
DaGimp Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 They have way too many lightweights on that defense. From the D-line all the way on back. That D would get eaten up by Todd Collins in his prime.
ans4e64 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Now we're happy we have bad character guys on the team? I thought we hated guys like Marshawn, James Hardy, Ko Simpson, Whitner, Owens... now we like Palmer? Just ridiculous, uninformed Bills fans.
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 he looks as small as ellison Zack Thomas is 5-11.
