The Obama speech to school kids released

I just don't get why people were upset in the beginning. Like Obama is going to try to manipulate the children of the country? Just the whole thought of "Oh no, he's spreading his policies and socialism to kids, ahhhhh run for cover, protect your children from our President". It's just sad that people believe that.

The speech should have never had to be posted, it should be an honor, or at least a very cool thing for the kids to see the President of their country. I also don't get the lack of trust in this administration. It's not like the previous eight years was very transparent, hell we're still finding out things that were done.

Please do not be reasonable and make sensible statements. There is no place for that on this board.

In the grand scheme of things this is indeed a blip, and the people who are making such a fuss out of it only look petty and silly for doing so. IMHO.

Yeah..."reasonable statements"......like anyone who has a word to say about Obama is a "teabagging birther racist" which is what I got from one of you "reasonable" liberals at a BBQ this past weekend.

My statement to cause this person to make such an observation? It was a question....

"Do you really think if you need a test or procedure, you wont have to argue with the 'US Gubmint' to have it approved, like you do with private insuurers now, on occasion."

How dare I?

Sounds like you needed to be at a better BBQ. :censored:

What did anyone expect?

I am sure the birthers and teabaggers will got thru it with a fine-toothed comb only to discover that if you extract every [nth] letter (pick on) those letters will combine to lay out his socialist agenda in a "subliminable" message.

We all know what the deal is...disrespect the President at every turn. Undercut him and his office with disrespect. Find any reason, no matter how crazy. Fox News will treat anything like a legitimate news story. Obama really an alien sent here to enslave humanity? It's the lead story on Glenn Beck tonight.

If you play Obama's speech backwards it really says "Children of the United States... listen to me. Push Health Care and Socialism at home and I will give you cupcakes for lunch. YES, CUPCAKES FOR LUNCH EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR!! (Insert Dr. Evil laugh here)"

I agree. Sean DeLonas had a great cartoon today (its not online yet), showing a Dad saying to his wife "I'm not letting them watch Obama at school, it could warp their minds," Meanwhile the kids are playing violent and sexual video games sitting mere inches from the TV. Excellent juxtaposition.

Actually, I find that pretty disgusting.

Am I missing some sarcasm here? I see a lesson plan asking kids to create posters and track goals that will help them to become more civic minded and make moves toward taking more personal responsibility.

These have officially become the things we DON'T want to be encouraging out of our youth? When I was in Boy Scouts these things were preached to me all the time. It made me a better person and a better adult, yet now we find it disgusting that we would teach this to our children and ask them to follow through with a goal sheet to track their progress.

Who should be giving a speech like this to kids if the president is not? Would it be Ok if some famous sports figure gave it? Some movie star?

Don't give me the parents at home should be telling their kids this and no one else crap, because most parents don't.

Positive messages should come to kids from EVERY direction.

The only people I could understand being upset by this are people who want their kids to grow up self-centered, irresponsible and uncaring about society as a whole.

Well there's this...

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/20...ruther-deserver

Oh and there's...

An administration approved, snitch on your fellow dissenting Americans websites

The pork in the 700 billion dollar stimulus bill

Trying to ram through an unread 1300 page public option health care bill before August

Robert Gibbs (he's asking us to be trusting of what that guy says? are you kidding me?)

Obama had his chance to prove that he was the regular guy he campaigned as and he blew it big time. His Presidency hasn't stopped looking like amateur hour. Hopefully he can do a 180, give the finger to Pelosi and Reid, and regain some trust because America needs a strong leader right now, not a lap dog for the far left lunatic fringe.

HAHAHAHAHA. Let me ask you something... did you trust Bush when he said something or when he tried to pass his agenda?

The Van Jones thing reminds me of the Birthers, the Obama is going to take your guns people and the those people who overlooked Palin and her ties to Alaska secessionists.

no it was different before hand...the material was along the lines of writing about how the school kids could help president obama, the director of education has since admitted the wording was incorrect and they have since revised it. the main concern was people thought the president was going to 'push his agenda', very socialist in nature to alot of people, me included, there was no preview of what he was going to speech. only after the uproar did the administration agree to release the content and material in advance, once that was made clear there was further uproar about the 'assignment' of writing about 'how I can help President Obama'...once again, that was revised. No one is disputing the subject matter as it is now laid out....people were simply leery of what he might have said....ya gotta admit, the administration does have a strong history of missteps that they have had to backpedal on, people wanted to make sure there were no missteps to a population of impressionable minds.....

Oh Jeez, the conspiracy theories abound. I am sure this thing went through quite a few write ups including one by the Department of Education which the White House uses as input and then promptly ignores most of.... Most of the time at USDA we were happy with just a mention, but then again that was USDA. Most often the WH ignored most of what I wrote or anyone else for that matter. I remember getting a whole sentence or two in one of the President's speeches at one point...

Of course the Pres is going to say something about his agenda, go to school, work hard and play by the rules, something the politicals and financial wizards in this country, not to mention insurance companies should go back and study what that means... There... happy with my rant. This outcry is so much about nothing and such a load of crap it makes the right wing look bad when the have bigger things to worry about.

I see a lesson plan that's designed around the person holding the office of President, not the office itself. Encouraging personality cults is not the path to civic virtue.

I simply see "the President" being referenced as the person talking... "What is the President trying to tell me?", "What new ideas and actions is the president challenging me to think about?"

I'm confused should they have referred to him as "the guy in the video" instead of the President?

Neon lights, a nobel prize

The mirror speaks, the reflection lies

You dont have to follow me

Only you can set me free

I sell the things you need to be

I'm the smiling face on your TV

I'm the cult of personality

I exploit you, still you love me

I tell you one and one makes three

that sounds exactly like something i quoted back in november of last year....scary how that song, being 15 or so years old, is so applicable today
