GG Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 And there you have it. The best defense is that Kelsay is an average two-down DE... .. Who happens to be paid like a star DE. So ignore the cap room that could be used to maybe pay a an average starting left tackle.

So ignore the cap room that could be used to maybe pay a an average starting left tackle. Since when do star DEs make $5 million a year? You could cut Kelsay, but we would only be gouged even more in the run game. Kelsay is being paid like an average DE, and it would only make us worse to cut him.
GG Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Too bad that my post referred to an average left tackle, but you can intepret whatever you want. And frankly, Kelsay's superior run D rings very hollow when the team can't stop 3rd down conversions of any length. To say that the guy is average is a compliment evidenced by the thank you but no thank you Bills got when they tried to deal him in April. At least Ko brought a 6th rounder back.

This team is very good on 3rd down.
stevewin Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I also have no idea why wendling made the roster. Wendling == Coy Wire - except he jumps on land instead of out of a pool
EC-Bills Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Really? This team is very good on 3rd down. How do you know we are very good on 3rd down? We haven't played a regular season game yet.
Fingon Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 How do you know we are very good on 3rd down? We haven't played a regular season game yet. How do you know Kelsay will suck in 2009? We haven't played a regular season game yet.
DonInBuffalo Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 One thing to keep in mind is they'll need to release one more player when Lynch's suspension is over.
John Cocktosten Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 How do you know we are very good on 3rd down? We haven't played a regular season game yet. When Figgy watches the games, he pays close attention to defensive third down %.
Dwight Drane Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 One thing to keep in mind is they'll need to release one more player when Lynch's suspension is over. I'm sure we'll have a few on IR by then. Stupar has me scratching my head. I was almost impressed with him as I was when Freddy Jackson broke out in preseason. I could have sworn Fine would have been IR'd and stashed. I guess he must only be able to bench 150lbs or something...because he was a route running fool.
EC-Bills Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 When Figgy watches the games, he pays close attention to defensive third down %. Apparently, I was under the wrong impression last year when we couldn't get off the field on 3rd downs when it counted.
Fingon Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Apparently, I was under the wrong impression last year when we couldn't get off the field on 3rd downs when it counted. It's called selective memory. No one remembers the big stop with 5 minutes left, they only remember the drive right after the offense gets the ball back and goes 3 and out.
Beerball Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 It's called selective memory. No one remembers the big stop with 5 minutes left, they only remember the drive right after the offense goes 3 and out. I remember no playoffs this millenium. I remember 7-9. I remember 7-9. I remember 7-9. I remember a defensive end who makes 2 plays per year. He blows.
EC-Bills Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 It's called selective memory. No one remembers the big stop with 5 minutes left, they only remember the drive right after the offense gets the ball back and goes 3 and out. Not quite. I remember quite clearly. Did you read about selective memory in one of your scouting guides about Kelsay that you cling to so dearly?
BuffaloRebound Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 What is the point of a 260 pound run-stopper at defensive end? Especially when the Bills don't get any pass rush from their DT's or LB's.
Tsaikotic Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 damn it. Sucks for stupar I see this more as "damn it, sucks for Bills"...but I get what your saying...it's actually probably better for Stupar tho...hopefully he can get picked up by a team that needs a starter or #2 TE over staying on the Bills team that he most likely would be inactive most weeks as the #4 TE So we wasted a 6th round pick this year on Cary Harris, huh!? FO = joke. not sure if you're being sarcastic here, but I'll bite...how often do 6th and 7th round picks actually make a team, or even make the team in there rookie year without being on PS first?...some teams have actually cut rookies they grabbed in earlier rounds, now that's bad drafting...I think it's great that Buffalo was able to find Lankster in the 7th and keep him..so for Buffalo to cut a 6th rounder is really no big deal...he might make the PS anyways. Anybody know if Bowen is a possibility at practice squad since he didn't dress last year? here's the list of players eligible for PS per Chris Brown: Name QB Matt Baker LB Alvin Bowen LB Marcus Buggs OL Chris Denman TE Tyson DeVree DE Ataefiok Etukeren OL Christian Gaddis RB Bruce Hall CB Cary Harris WR C.J. Hawthorne OL Nick Hennessey WR Felton Huggins DT Derrick Jones CB Ellis Lankster DL Corey Mace LB Ryan Manalac RB Xavier Omon LB Ashlee Palmer C/G Brandon Rodd WR Shaine Smith TE Jonathan Stupar news flash - Stupar got axed. Go back to sleep now. he didn't use a comma in his sentence, thus making his sentence a run-on sentence and making it look as tho all names listed where under his "making the team" statement...just so it's clearer for yea..in no way am I being a "grammer police"..as you can see from my sentence structure..lol
Fingon Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I remember no playoffs this millenium. I remember 7-9. I remember 7-9. I remember 7-9. I remember a defensive end who makes 2 plays per year. He blows. Kelsay isn't the problem. It's the ineffectiveness of our RDE that is the problem. The 4-3 defense feeds off the pass rush of the RDE, just as the 3-4 needs a good OLB. Kelsay has shown that he can be a good complimentary DE when there is someone good on the other side. Again, Kelsay isn't the best pass rusher, but a DEs don't just rush the passer. If i were you, I would be focusing more of my hate against Aaron Schobel. It's HIS job to rack up the sacks. HE is the RDE. Kelsay does his job fairly well, and that is why he was not cut. The 7-9 record last year was NOT on the defense. The D played well enough to get us into the playoffs, it was the offense that did not.
Fingon Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Not quite. I remember quite clearly. Did you read about selective memory in one of your scouting guides about Kelsay that you cling to so dearly? The fact is that our defense was very good on 3rd down last year. You can't debate that with anything other than non-specific anecdotal evidence. I can present scout's opinions, and stats that show that Kelsay does not "suck. You can keep bitching, but I don't know what world you live in where you expect our LDE to rack up the sacks.
THE GASH STATION Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Kelsay blows two-peckered Tijuana billygoats with piss-hardons. Love to see a photoshop of that one
Tsaikotic Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 hey, just wondering if anyone thinks Buffalo might look at the kickers that were cut to try to replace Lindell at all?...I know it was just one pre-season game, but he did miss an easy chip shot and that 48 yarder just squeaked in...just a thought.
