JohnC Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 ... Marv is looking more and more like a disaster as GM, Jauron may be the worst coach this team has had in the last 30 years, with the exception of Hank Bullough, Turk couldn't get the offense fixed, and the verdict is still very much out on our QB...lets get some friggin' football people in Buffalo... The owner hired the congenial Marv Levy because he trusted him. Marv Levy is a quality person who was very ill suited for the position at this stage of his life. The owner is the person who has designed the organizational structure because he is comfortable with the set up. The person the owner picked, Russ Brandon, to replace Levy and who presides over the organization is a "marketing specialist". What else is there to say?

Yea, sorry, I really wasn't intending to slam Marv...the problem has always been, at the root, the Hall of Fame owner. It is just there are so many here who bend over backwards to defend every step, and mis-step, the Bills make...the hiring of Levy as a GM looked terrible at the time, to anyone who can detach themselves from the situation. I think Marv himself realized it. I have no ill will toward Levy... Tom Donohoe certainly had his problems, but I can't believe this team would be in such disarray had he stayed on... Ralph Wilson continues to destroy his franchise...
ThereIsNoDog Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Dog, If you don't believe that Peters was our best O lineman last year and the few years prior then tell me who you think was better than him on our line? Even the Bills front office would state the obvious that Peters was their best lineman by far. The front office felt that he wasn't worth the contract that he was seeking so they traded him to the Eagles. The Eagles regularly make the playoffs in the rugged eastern NFC division. In the past ten years they have been in the NFL championshipship game five times. The Bills have not been in the playoffs in a decade (include this year). Without a doubt the Eagles have a more competent owner, front office, scouting staff and coaching staff etc than the Bills. While the Bills refused to give Peters a major contract, the Eagles quickly sealed the mega-deal with him after the trade. As you pointed out, you said we will see if the Bills made a mistake by what happens this season. That is a reasonable stance to take. But let me remind you that the Bills have been losing and have been inept for a very long time. Their embarrassing record is not due because they make a lot of smart decisions. So your argument is that the Bills get everything wrong and the Eagles get everything right. Is that it? We'll revisit this at the end of the year.
Buftex Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 So your argument is that the Bills get everything wrong and the Eagles get everything right. Is that it? We'll revisit this at the end of the year. One of the biggest problems the Bills FO has had over the last few years, they are not afraid to make moves to get rid of players, but they never seem to have a solid backup plan...they cross their fingers and hope for miracles...not a one has really happened yet, for them... whether it is frustration, or trying to save money, they always seem to create bigger holes for themselves...there isn't one area on this team (maybe WR, but I am not even sure about that) that looks significantly better (most look worse) than they were when Donohoe was fired... the Bills have been treading water for some time...

Somehow I doubt it.
K-9 Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 This entire situation reeks of desperation. And for all this talk about TE's relationship with Schonert to surface now is pure BS. Totally unprofessional. It's time to stop coddling Edwards. If he keeps screwing the pooch can we expect it to leak out that the didn't get along with Van Pelt as well? NOBODY doesn't get along with the Pill. Time to grow up, Trent. GO BILLS!!!

Sure the Bills have made more wrong moves than right, but not every, or even close to every, move was wrong. We'll see whether not paying Peters $10M/year was a mistake or not.

Somehow I doubt it. Were you excited when Schonert was made the OC? I wasn't. I also wasn't happy with the offense last year. This move may turn out no better, but at best we were in for more of the same.
Buftex Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Sure the Bills have made more wrong moves than right, but not every, or even close to every, move was wrong. We'll see whether not paying Peters $10M/year was a mistake or not. I have no problem with not paying Peters, and shipping him out. I do have a problem with the fact that they didn't have any contingency plan to deal with how that would effect the offensive line. I wasn't even really referring, necessarily to the Peters move... this teams O-line has been average to poor, for a decade now... so what is another year?
Buftex Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Were you excited when Schonert was made the OC? I wasn't. I also wasn't happy with the offense last year. This move may turn out no better, but at best we were in for more of the same. I realize you weren't addressing this to me, but I honestly think that Schoenert is/was too agressive for Jauron's liking. I was excited to see him named OC... I wasn't thrilled with the offense we saw last year. What we saw on offense in 2008 seemed more a reflection of Jauron, to me, than Schoenert. I am kind of buying TS's side of the story on this one...
Sisyphean Bills Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Doesn't the Van Pelt move seem like more of the same? Hey, it might turn out well, but would anyone else have hired AVP to call plays? Somehow I doubt it. He does have one year as a QB coach under his belt.

I wasn't even really referring, necessarily to the Peters move... this teams O-line has been average to poor, for a decade now... so what is another year? I think the plan was to have Walker start until Bell was ready. And Bell was ready...until he got injured. There were really no other moves to be made once the decision to trade him was made, except for having a rookie play LT, and the 4th best rookie LT at that (outside of trading more picks away to move up to #8).

That is a good point. They seem to do the same thing regarding the coaching staff as well. Replace one question mark with another question mark....players and staff.

JohnC Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 So your argument is that the Bills get everything wrong and the Eagles get everything right. Is that it? We'll revisit this at the end of the year. My argument is very simple. The Eagles are a competent organization which consistently wins. The Bills are an incompetent organization which consistently lose. No team gets things TOTALLY' wrong or right. That is an absurd proposition you put out. You don't have to wait until the end of the season to grasp the fact that the Bills are a very troubled franchise led by a clueless owner. Over the past decade the Bills ranked 29 out of 32. During the same period their record is 60-84. Their winning percentage is .417. The Bills have not been in the playoffs for a decade, which includes this year. The Eagles consistently make the playoffs in a much tougher division, top to bottom. Why wait for the end of the season to make a conclusion which is obvious to most people? Being a loyal Bills' fan doesn't require one to surrender one's ability to reason and observe. There is nothing inappropriate of being highly critical of a dysfunctional organization. The fans of western NY have been very supportive of the team. They deserve better than the garbage they have been getting for a long time.
spartacus Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 He does have one year as a QB coach under his belt. you guys are short changing Alex he was quality control coach for 2 years as well. and he slept at a Holiday Inn Express when he went to Detroit It is a foregone conclusion the Bills offense will be at least 31st

No need to always settle for 2nd best.
Malazan Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Ya know...at this point, I'm not so sure the Eagles organization "of this year" is model you want to build around.

Conversely, just because the team hasn't made the playoffs in 9 years, it doesn't mean everything they've done is wrong. If you want to continue to waste time trying to predict how this situation will turn out for each team, be my guest. I'll wait until the end of the season, if not beyond, because Peters will have to play at an All-Pro level for at least 3 years. Oh and read the "In the interest of making sure the horse is truly dead" thread for an article on why the Bills ultimately traded Peters. Not to mention how a 90 degree turn in his stance will help keep him from sucking wind at the end of games, and how he'll get the help from RB's and TE's that he never got in Buffalo. Yet he's still "the best LT in football."

Somehow I doubt it. No one else hired him because he was here trying to right the ship here, it may seem like more of the same but the fact of the matter is this, every OC had to start somewhere, even the great ones got their 1st oppourtunity to be the play caller, its all about taking advantage of it when you get the job. Here's his chance to make a name for himself, Good Luck AVP, we're all rooting for you, make it happen now ! ! !
