DarthICE Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 both AVP and Studesville? That is part of the problem right there. Bring in an damn good OC and you have ONE guy running the show.
Rubes Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Great. So Deadspin was right all along. Inept offense and hermaphrodites.
DC Tom Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Ballsy if you ask me "Ballsy," "amateurish", and "stupid" are not mutually exclusive. And I didn't ask you. And remember when I teased you about having a gay porn picture in your profile? Well...please don't use the friggin' "flirt" smiley with me.
BillsFan Trapped in Pats Land Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 both AVP and Studesville? That is part of the problem right there. Bring in an damn good OC and you have ONE guy running the show. Studesville remains in his role.
DarthICE Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Tim Graham has a recap up: http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/...o-fire-schonert Well....AVP can't pass block or open running lanes. AVP can't stand and deliver the ball down field with anticipation so I really wonder if the firing wasn't a moot point?
Endzone Animal Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 "Ballsy," "amateurish", and "stupid" are not mutually exclusive.

Mike in Syracuse Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 both AVP and Studesville? That is part of the problem right there. Bring in an damn good OC and you have ONE guy running the show. "Quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt will take over. Running game coordinator Eric Studesville will remain in his role." Seemed pretty clear to me, AVP is the guy.
DC Tom Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 both AVP and Studesville? That is part of the problem right there. Bring in an damn good OC and you have ONE guy running the show. Brilliant. Two guys calling plays, each from a separate set, with no one put in charge of the playcalling as a whole. We have uncoordinated offensive coordinators. Offensive Uncoordinators.
Wing Man Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 We waited for the no-huddle to get faster. We waited for Edwards to learn how to face 3-4 defenses. We waited for play calling that met the strengths of the offense. We waited for Edwards to hit wide receivers. Bye, Turk, good riddance. Alex Van Pelt will do better as "passing OC", whatever that means, but at the end of the season, they need to shop for a new OC. Part of Edwards' struggles falls on Van Pelt as quarterbacks coach. Altogether, we need to clean house, and that includes some underperforming players.
Guest dog14787 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Tim Graham has a recap up: http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/...o-fire-schonert hmmm, contradicting reports, Tim has DJ on record as being the driving force on the dismissal.
thewildrabbit Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 This may actually be a situation where I trust RW's judgement. He knows more about football than Jauron. Still a completely amateurish, retarded move, though. Not in my book, Schonert was a moron who called the plays he wanted irregardless of who the QB was. I'll never forget that 49er game last season. Marshawn tearing the niners a new one with 135+ yards by the end of the 3rd QTR and Schonert tries to make JP win the game by throwing into a constant nickle / dime defense's. The 49ers didn't blitz and only rushed with 4 and dropped into coverage. Schonert panicked just the same way he used to panic when he actually played QB now and again, instead of his real job of holding a clipboard. I just hope AVP does a better job, If not, no biggie ...because Jauron will go soon also. I can't stop day dreaming about Ralph Wilson hiring Mike Shanahan or Marty Schottenheimer, either of those two would help this offense so dramatically.
Beerball Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Could be worse, it could be raining. Thanks Igor.
LABills08 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Two OC's would be a disaster on par with the GM situation. Regardless, I appreciate Jauron taking the blame. Though, the fact that he had to call Wilson to initiate this is beyond me if true. Ralph should have been breathing down Jauron's neck. Few Points after reading the quotes: 1) If it was in fact Jauron's call, he clearly is saving his ass. 2) Same schemes? If we are having Evans run out routes for the next 10 weeks not much is going to change. 3) Jauron is next on the hot seat with Edwards soon after...
twist_to_open Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Thats about the only guy dick was able to hide behind now that the bullets are flying.....he's definetly next and it wont be long! The bye week at the latest.
The Senator Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I really think he is. If Ralph has his wits about him, this is a warning sign to Jauron. It also serves the purpose of having someone else handle the offense (someone who couldn't be worse). I still think this is a lot about the play-calling, but considering this came from Ralph, a pathetic offensive performance against the Lions probably was the last straw. "Last straw" is probably just what it was - I'm sure RW has been second-guessing the stay-of-execution he granted both Schonert AND Jauron the entire off-season, and what he saw this pre-season - starting in Canton - was the proverbial 'straw that broke the camel's back'. Too bad Ralph didn't follow his gut last winter. If he fired Schonert then, Jauron may have quit out of principle, and Ralph could have gotten a 2-fer - a head coach that doubles as his own offensive coordinator, namely...
Stenbar Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I hope so too. AVP's biggest problem is that he's now going to be in permanent catch-up mode this season. If he's smart and has the guts, he'll take a coherent longer-term view and try to implement a stable offensive scheme, even if it's at the expense of the first half of the season. Given that his boss was just fired for preseason performance, though, it would take a LOT of guts to basically say "I'm going to take my time and do this right, even if it means tanking a few early games." I wouldnt think he would be in catch up mode..He did play NFL qb for a while and he knows how to breakdown film and prepare for a game. The question is gonna be how is he at setting up certain plays, knowing the perfect time to go for it all versus knowing when to hammer the ball down someones throat...
