Albany,n.y.
Next they'll be fining stations for broadcasting violent hits & hockey fights (maybe that's the real reason the NHL is not playing) http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...2054EST0808.DTL
BillsNYC
Hold on....they were allowed to show Schindler's List (nudity, violence, lanquage, BLOOD) un-edited on network tv...but not Saving Private Ryan?
aussiew
I would think that showing Schindler's List was also a political statement

John Adams
huh? 112712 Here's the earlier related thread. thread I don't think the FCC scared them at all. I think this is a network trying to fight the FCC in general, and the movie they have chosen as their vehicle is one that Conservatives love. Their argument goes something like this, "Your FCC rules are so restrictive that we can't show your own beloved movie, so BACK THE EFF OFF." I think this has little to do with Ryan, as Ryan itself would clearly not be hit by the Bush/Powell free speech big government free speech quenching crowd. We should be able to see both Saving Private Ryan and Saving Ryan's Privates on TV. If you don't like it, turn it off. If you are worried about kids, be a parent. I don't need the government to be my nanny.
buckeyemike
I don't need the government to be my nanny. 112852 Amen to that. But remember, in the early 21st Century, many people have ceded control of their lives to the government. I can understand why excessive amounts of sex shouldn't be shown on TV, but "Saving Private Ryan" was shown unedited on ABC about 18 months ago. This is not the first time. I remember it well, because there are a number of F-words in the unedited version. And that movie is plenty violent. Mike

RkFast
Excuse me, but what does being Republican and a movie about the invasion of Normandy have to do with each other? What type of backwards rationale and dumb stereotyping is that? What? Democrats didnt appreciate or like what went down that day? By your rationale and taking your dumb, bigoted stance, I could say that "Black Hawk Down" is a movie Democrats would like. Put the Hot Pockets away and get a clue. Furtermore, your implication that PORN should be allowed on basic TV is beyond absurd.

Quit chugging your Kool-Aid, and come down to the ground of reality and quit defending YOUR bigoted, stereotypical 'everything offends us' extremist conservative religious crackpots. RkFast
Youre a hoot. You dont want to defend WHAT YOU WROTE, so you hide behind the title of the thread? LAME. Ill ask you AGAIN.....what kind of implication were you making by saying that a movie centered about a historical wartime event is one "Republicans would cherish". What kind of connection were you trying to make there? Id also like to know where youre getting the idea that Republicans "own" that movie. Be a man....what did you mean? YOU are running, not me... you misinterpreted what I said, and twisted it into some sort of 'I'm stupid' routine!! SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES want to ram this morality down our throats and regulate our society to death, I.E. the fuss about the movie!! Amen to that. But remember, in the early 21st Century, many people have ceded control of their lives to the government. I responded to THIS COMMENT, NOT the original artıcle. Hence, the LINK BETWEEN THE MOVIE AND MY COMMENT. Honestly I should not have even responded, and assumed you just would never get it, but I do love a challenge. SilverNRed
ABC's affiliate in Austin declined to show SPR last night started at 7pm local time. The station manager went on saying she tried to get the network to let them broadcast the film at 9pm but that request was refused. So, instead, they showed an Oprah re-run at 7 followed by Lethal Weapon 4 (!) at 8pm. This has nothing to do with the FCC, just people having no idea what is and isn't appropriate for Veteran's Day. Saving Private Ryan on Vet's Day at 7pm: Bad. Lethal Weapon 4 at 8pm: Good. Morons.

GG
Like clockwork, the good ol Rev Don Wildmon has rallied his troops to besiege FCC complaints At the very least, hopefully this should finally remove the ambiguities that are not solved by the remote control.
