pBills
No, no...we'd go right back to 9 year olds working 16 hour shifts. Actually, Rudy was doing a fine job in NYC pre-9/11. Not sure his style is the best fit for Gov., but anyone is better than the blind squirrel currently in charge. Do those 9 year olds work at Walmart. If so, then I believe you. What !@#$ing moron of a politician would NOT use their hallmark moment as a public servant as a cornerstone of his or her campaign for higher office? There's a difference between a specific event and a vague message of "Hopey Changey" (which is !@#$ing funny, btw). Generally, specifics are bad in politics, for two reasons: because they pin one down so that the opposition can destroy you, and because politicians are generally too stupid to be specific without sounding like idiots (e.g. Gary Hart and the Czech airliner question). Exactly. Implied vs. Inferred trumps a real resume any day. It's how Obama got elected. Prior to his election, his accomplishments could be printed on the back of a fortune cookie insert. Nothing to pin him down on.
DC Tom
I agree. Rudy's message and contant repition of "9/11!!!!" wore on the nerves of even his most steadfast supporters....and certainly DID open him up to criticism about the event. I beleive more than one book and expose KILLING Giuliani of his handling of 9/11 were penned. Im just saying its his ace.....what idiot doesnt play his ace? The idiot that's playing five-card draw with a one-card hand.

And THAT is the whole point. It's that good old GOP "lower the bar" policy. If the bar's low enough, anyone can jump over it. Surely somewhere in New York there is a member of the GOP with a brain and some accomplishments who could win out over one of the most ineffective governors you've had in years? As you say, he did a great job as NYC mayor IMHO. I think he could do a good job as govenor if he has the stomach for the type of fighting necessary to get NYS back on track. I don't know if he does (and I'm a big Rudy backer).
UConn James
Well, to get this back on track a little.... 1) I don't think D.C. ever was or will be in the cards for Rudy. He is best as a more localized pol -- akin to mid-level management rather than CEO. He just doesn't have a national support network, and surely not among the base of the GOP in the key 'red' states. Regional politics are what they are --- a New England Republican will have a hard go winning the South or the West GOP; likewise a Western Democrat would probably have a hard sell here in the northeast. At most, Rudy's considered for a cabinet post if an as yet unidentified Republican wins in 2012. 2) Rudy is a fighter, especially when he's got an opponent he is almost diametrically opposed from on policy (fiscal much more than social)... and dislikes. Part of the problem, besides playing late-to-supper in the primaries was that he didn't have someone to totally disagree with (even when he tried with Romney it just elicited a shrug from me), and there was an air of holding back so as not to smear an eventual nominee too badly ahead of the general. And hey, the primary strategy was probably the best he could do with what polling suggested and with the resources his campaign had to work with; he was hoping to catch lightning in a bottle and he caught a lightning bug. Guaranteed that Rudy does not have similar problems raising $ inside NY.
PearlHowardman
The Bottom Line: Albany now is what NYC was like in 1993 - a total mess. Only Rudy has the guts to clean Albany from top to bottom. Andrew Cuomo won't do it since there's WAY too many Democrats running State government. Rudy won't even mention 9/11 - he doesn't need to.

He overused 9-11 because that's all the nation knew him for. New Yorkers don't need to be reminded of that, they just have to be reminded how Rudy fixed NYC. I moved here halfway through his term, but every single person I speak to in NYC who was here before said it was a nightmare/dump and Rudy cleaned it up and made it what it is today. Not sure what the poster meant by being a total partisian...the guy is a social liberal.
