UConn James Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 NYT link Mr. Giuliani declined to be interviewed, but several people who have spoken to him said he sees parallels between the current conditions in Albany and those in the city before his election as mayor. Voters were willing to take a chance on him then, he has said, in part because they were fed up with the dysfunction. “Several times, he said to me that he sees state government similar to where New York City was in 1993: out of control,” said Mr. King, who met with Mr. Giuliani late last month at the Capitol Hill Club. “So many people are saying the state can’t be governed, which is what everyone was saying about the city then. In Rudy’s mind, this is a challenge.” I think this would be a great fit for Rudy and for NY. He shares a lot of the NY sensibilities and if anyone can reign in Albany, it would be Rudy. I just don't believe Paterson or Cuomo could b/c of their constituencies. For the GOP, too, as they need someone to get them to back away from the crazy Baptist minister types that took over. They need to get back to making fiscal discipline their party's #1 trait. Then they need to actually exercise fiscal discipline after elections. That's the hard part. But Rudy has done it before. Judging by the first 8 months of the current presidency and congress, this path would seem to be the way to go in '12; they need someone to lead the way out of the darkness. One might argue that Rudy helped the Republican brand in this regard and set the stage for '94.
John Adams Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rudy would steamroll the election. And Patterson would cry "racism!" We'll see. He would have been a formidable presidential candidate too but he ran a terrible campaign.
Magox Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Good! I hope he does run for governor. Hopefully he doesn't give a half ass effort in his election process like the embarrassing run at presidency he had.
Magox Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 We'll see. He would have been a formidable presidential candidate too but he ran a terrible campaign. ya, because his effort sucked.
John Adams Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 ya, because his effort sucked. Buttnugget's strategy was to start campaigning in Flo rida and ignore any momentum from the other states. Not sure if it was laziness or stupidity. Either way, it's easier in New York and he's relatively beloved there.

Either way, it's easier in New York and he's relatively beloved there. That's exactly what happened. He was relying on Florida, by the time the campaign reached the sunny beaches of S.Florida, he was out for the count.
BillsNYC Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rudy wasn't ready for the national scene, governor is the right move for him. He's the kind of guy NY needs right now.
bills_fan Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rudy v. Cuomo would be a real dogfight. I hope Rudy has the stomach for that type of fight.
IDBillzFan Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 That's exactly what happened. He was relying on Florida, by the time the campaign reached the sunny beaches of S.Florida, he was out for the count. Fortunately that helped lead to the genius that was John McCain. As I had mentioned during the campaign, there was no way McCain was going to win that election when, in comparison to the confidence and looks of Obama, all he did was remind people of a Tim Conway character on The Carol Burnett Show.

Personally, I was pulling for Romney, too bad he has as much charisma as a door knob.
pBills Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Poor people of NY will hear about 9/11 again. It will just go on and on and on and on..
IDBillzFan Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Poor people of NY will hear about 9/11 again. It will just go on and on and on and on.. I'm with you. If people could just forget about that little historical blip, everything would be SO much better.
Keukasmallies Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rudy would be OK because he isn't an incumbent. Remember, now is the time to identify the NYS elected official incumbents, and mark your calendars to be sure to vote against each and every one. None of this mamby pamby "Our guy is fine, it's those downstaters...." Vote 'em all OUT. New mantra: Turn 'em out 'til they do what the voters want done.
pBills Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rudy can ditch the 9/11 stuff, which was his shining moment....when your beloved labor unions ditch talk about how the helped the blue collar worker, their shining moment (from circa 1890). Deal? And how they continue to help the blue collar worker. Sorry you didn't know that.
Magox Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 And how they continue to help the blue collar worker. Sorry you didn't know that. you're right, national security issues is soooo 2001 jackass
KD in CA Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rudy can ditch the 9/11 stuff, which was his shining moment....when your beloved labor unions ditch talk about how the helped the blue collar worker, their shining moment (from circa 1890). Deal? No, no...we'd go right back to 9 year olds working 16 hour shifts. Actually, Rudy was doing a fine job in NYC pre-9/11. Not sure his style is the best fit for Gov., but anyone is better than the blind squirrel currently in charge.
Magox Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rudy would steamroll the election. And Patterson would cry "racism!" You mean the same Paterson who would get r-r-really a-a-ngry, when he ap-ap-applied for a j-j-job as an a-a-announcer at th-th-the r-r-r-radio s-s-station after they" t-t-turned me-me-me d-d-d-down”?
MattyT Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 This guy has become one of the most partisan shills this side of the Mississippi. He doesn't think for himself and his entire term would be for sale the second he entered office. I'm pretty sure he's even more blind than Paterson. Giuliani = Party before people
blzrul Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 And his platform would be 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911 911
pBills Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 you're right, national security issues is soooo 2001 jackass No, having ones entire platform based off of a terrorist attack and their "actions" during - NOT actual national security is old. Rudy CAN and should ditch that.
