Big Turk Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 i would bet they keep an extra corner since Florence was the starter at nickel before he got hurt, and Lankster is just too good to cut... If anything I think Yobouty is in trouble...
Tsaikotic Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Schouman is the starting TE. He is NOT going to be cut. Absolutely, you nailed it....Except for Stuper yea, TE is position I had a hard time with...I like Fine and I think Nelson is a lock...Stupar is having a good camp this year and I'm not sure if he can go on PS or not...If he can then he's either on the team's 53 man squad or the teams PS...
Estro Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Absolutely, you nailed it....Except for Stuper I've been thinking for a while now that either Youboty or Florence could possibly be cut. According to your breakdown Florence gets the axe, which whould be a big surprise, but I could see it happening. It's just tought to see someone like Florence get cut and Wendling make it, but Wendling adds much more value to special teams than florence, so it is forseeable.

If anything I think Yobouty is in trouble... The only way Reggie Corner wasn't going to be this teams starting nickel back was if Juaron had veteran man love with Florence. I think Corner is hands down the best nickel corner on this team, and is a guy who could eventually develop into a solid #2 corner. Reggie corner is a guy who I think will make some big plays this year!
billybob Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 We have a ton of position battles with guys that are pretty much even when it comes to talent. I looked at what we might keep and here is what I was thinking, I want everyone elses input as well. QB - 3 Edwards, Fitz, Hamdan FB - 1 McIntyre RB- 4 Lynch, Jackson, Rhodes, Omon - we cant afford to only keep 3 with Lynch's suspension in my mind WR- 7 or 8 - this is a tough spot for us, We obviously have Owens, Evans, Reed, Parish, Hardy, Johnson, I think we need to atleast keep Huggins, or Jenkins for Specials if not both of them OL- 8? - we have the starting 5 and then Bell, Chambers and McKinney? What does anyone else think, do we keep 9? TE - 3 or 4 - as stated in another thread its a tough choice on who to cut and how many we keep DE - 4 or 5 - Maybin, Schobel, Denney, Kelsay, Ellis or Bryan? I don't see DJ and staff cutting Schobel, Denney or Kelsay even if all 3 are at best average, I think we may have to keep 5 based on the fact Maybin isn't close to ready to step in and be an every down player if needed DL- 4 - Stroud, Johnson, Williams, McCargo Lb's - 6 or 7 - Poz, Mitchell, Ellison, Harris.... Buggs, Corto and Bowen fighting for 2 spots? DB's - 9 - McKelvin, McGee, Simpson, Whitner, Florence, Lankster, Byrd, Corner, Wilson, (Do we keep Wendling for specs? What about Sargent?) maybe we keep 11 DB's? Then of course we have LS, Kicker and Punter which is 3 more spots... these #'s take us to 56 to 59... so do we only keep 3 TE's 4 RB's cut Steve Johnson and keep 6 receivers? Do we only keep 2 QB's this year because of all the other needs this team has? Also what do we do with DE, I think 5 is too many to carry but who is the odd man out? QB - 3 Edwards, Fitz, Hamdan FB- none - Schouman is suppose to be versatile if he can't play as an H-back he should be cut RB- 3 Jackson, Omon , Rhodes when Lynch comes back Rhodes is cut WR- 6 Evans, TO, Reed, Parrish, Johnson, Hardy- Nelson can fill in at WR in case of emergency TE - 4 Schouman, Fine, Stupar, Nelson OL- 9 Walker, Levitra, Hangartner, Wood, Butler, Bell, Chambers, Mckinney, and Chris Denman or Jonathan Scott DL- 9 Mace plays both DE and DT DE- Schobel, Ellis, Maybin, Bryan, Mace- Money to performance Kelsay is impossible to keep- Denney goes into FA next year- I doubt Schobel will be back to form but you got to hope DT- Stoud, Williams, Jones, Johnson, Mace- McCargo can't seem to keep healthy LB- 7 Poz, Mitchell, Ellison, Harris, Corto, Bowen, Buggs- Corto beats out Wendling for specials DB-9 McKelvin, McGee, Youboty,Corner, Lankster Whitner, Scott, Bryd, Wilson K, P, LS That IMHO should be the Bills 53

vincec Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Schouman is the starting TE. He is NOT going to be cut. I agree... and obviously neither is Nelson. It'll be Fine or Stupar, no question. Also, I don't see how Kelsay can be cut until we have a promising substitute for him. Who is that? Maybin just started practicing in the NFL and Denney is no better than Kelsay. Maybe next year if Maybin shows that he can become at least a part time starter.

I'm a little concerned at WR. Johnson and Hardy have been injured as well as Owens. I think Jenkins might make it because of injuries and they like him on Special Teams. TE is a mess. No one clearly sticks out yet although Nelson may later in the season. Schouman will probably make the team even though I don't think he is all that good. The Bills have some tough calls for a change.

Get rid of safties Wilson and Wendling, and add Corto to LB's...but to be honest I realy don't want to jack this thread from original poster so maybe later I'll do my own thread on my final 53 man roster...most likely after tonights game...its getting close to first cuts isn't it?...

I think the Bills have always drafted with ST in mind....I am sure some one like Lankster or Harris can also play STs. Florence will be there to provide veteran presence to the football team. Youbouty is definitely on the bubble... What hurts this team is that the #1 and #2 picks in the draft, who were both defensive players have missed most of the off season and almost the entire training camp, for different reasons...However, that will come back to haunt the team during a 16 week season.

We might see Florence, Schoumann and Jenkins in with Stupar, Wendling and Bryan out. 6 DE's are too many.
ganesh Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Very good job. We might see Florence, Schoumann and Jenkins in with Stupar, Wendling and Bryan out. 6 DE's are too many. I agreee...6 DE and 4 DTs are just not matching...plus 23 on offense and 27 on Defense is very unbalanced, especially when you consider that Hardy and Johnson have hardly played during the training camp.
buffaloaggie Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I'm interested to see what some teams do at QB. If Minnesota releases Rosenfels or Jackson we should be on that, ditto if the Eagles bag AJ Feeley or Kevin Kolb to make room for Vick. Any of those guys is a better #3 than The Chroisen One. Hamdan is a VERY inexpensive #3. That's the advantage he'd have over the other QB's you mentioned. Not sure if those guys would settle for the 500-600K that Hamdan is getting vs. playing in the UFL.
Guest dog14787 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Absolutely, you nailed it....Except for Stuper Stupar is the biggest, toughest, best blocking TE of the group and he also catches almost everything thrown at him.

bladiebla Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Stupar is the biggest, toughest, best blocking TE of the group and he also catches almost everything thrown at him. Yet is he only getting 3rd team reps...

generaLee83 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I think Ko Simpson and Ashton Youboty are gone. If Maybin had actually signed his contract 3 years ago we may have seen Kelsay get cut, no chance of that now though.
