smuvtalker Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Forgive me for not providing the link, but on ESPN.com's main page they posted that he will miss his 2nd straight preseason game... I know it's only preseason, and I seriously doubt that it's too much of a concern, being as though nooone can question T.O.'s work ethic, but don't you all think that the preseason, live action is necessary for him to continue to develop a chemistry with Edwards? Could it be something more serious than they are letting us know? I sure hope not. Thoughts?

If it's turf toe he may be out for a while, not play effectively, or need surgery
BillsGuyInMalta Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 If I had it my way, he wouldn't play any more preseason games. We know that TO is going to be the most prepared player on this team. Let's make sure he doesn't rush to play in meaningless games when he could just rest up and be 100% for the season.
Simon Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 If that toe is even remotely sore he shouldn't be taking any snaps that don't count.
Bufcomments Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 We know what TO can do, he can still separate from DBs . I would not play him until the season opener if I were the Bills
John Adams Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 TO is in great shape but man the turf toe is one of those lingering injuries. It rarely just goes away. Luckily it's almost a month until the season starts. Regrettably, he has little chemistry with Trent yet so these weeks off are terrible.
Mark Vader Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I'm trying to stay positive but I'm getting worried. If it's turf toe he may be out for a while, not play effectively, or need surgery Turf toe is a real b!tch. We all know that T.O. is an exceptional athlete and has a great work ethic, but he's also 35, It's not surprising that this would happen. If it is turf toe, I say let him sit out the rest of these meaningless games. His 2 catches in the HOF game was good enough for me to see that he will be a big impact for the Bills.
Buftex Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Not implying that the injury isn't serious, or that he is faking it, but TO missed plenty of training camp time while he was in Dallas. The Bills are being smart to take every precaution with him.

The Bills are being smart to take every precaution with him. Again, as I said before on another post, I think this is more of a "Bruce Smith" type of training camp injury. I wouldn't worry about it. Also, I'm sure he won't play in the last preseason game, regarding the excuse. He's saving his energy and health for the showdown vs. Moss.
The Senator Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 One guy I absolutely know is going to be on the roster on September 14th is Terrell Owens. Much like Kelly, Smith, et al back in the days of 'Camp Marv', no sense in wearing this guy out in the pre-season, or aggravating a minor injury so that it becomes a nagging, season-long hindrance to his route-running.

I say get out the exercise bike now. Let him rest it until the showdown w/ NE*.
smuvtalker Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 Great points all of you. I too agree that he really doesn't need to show what he can do. I guess my only concern was him developing a chemistry with Edwards. But there's no doubt his work ethic is 2nd to none. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit the rest of the preseason. I do remember Bruce barely playing in the preseason.... But i definitely would be concerned if it's really turf toe. Hopefully that's not the case.
SteamRoller67 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4409455 I'll start to worry around September 3rd if he can't play a series or two in the Lions game. The guy can roll out of his silk sheets at 3 a.m. and go for 7 catches, 100 plus.
stuckincincy Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Not implying that the injury isn't serious, or that he is faking it, but TO missed plenty of training camp time while he was in Dallas. The Bills are being smart to take every precaution with him. Yup, regarding his toe. His self-promotion aside, the snits - TO is a smart cookie with a great sense of the game, great situational awareness. He does have that ego, which we worry about if the season starts to go sour. That's the big unknown... But I don't worry about him not being on the same page with any QB, despite missing camp and ps time He's one of a handful that sees the whole situation down-by-down - better than many quarterbacks.
bladiebla Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 What is turftoe and how is it treated: http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/toeproblem...eproblems_5.htm

See him in his show and you know he is a proffesional as far as keeping in shape is concerned. I just hope missing pre season games doesn't slow his gelling with the Bills
DIE HARD 1967 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Oh my God, This is going to keep me up all night! I blame it on Russ Brandon...... You need WR's with stronger toes
Fewell733 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 i think this kind of thing can become "turf toe" if you don't give it the rest and recovery it needs. Geez, we have 3 more preseason games. This preseason is LONG. This I think we know about T.O., he'll do whatever he can to make sure he's playing come the regular season. Even if that means weeks in his hyperbaric chamber.
The_Philster Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 If that toe is even remotely sore he shouldn't be taking any snaps that don't count. ^^^^ what he said. ditto...we don't need him making it worse and then jeopardizing his availability for the season opener against the Cheatriots
