BuffaloBill Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 The "what's a map" comment in the GPS thread Thanks - that was my comment. I would add - your neighbor's voice when you pick up the handset because you are on a "party line." Twas hard to keep a secret back in those days.
PeteBills4ever Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Chesty Morgan running on the baseball field to kiss a player (73pp my friend, that's over 6 feet!) Roseanne singing the national anthem ( thank god!)
The Dean Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Burma-Shave I loved the Burma Shave stuff. I like that approach for other products, too, as a kid. It kept the boring drive a little more interesting.
The Senator Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I loved the Burma Shave stuff. I like that approach for other products, too, as a kid. It kept the boring drive a little more interesting. rockpile Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Veterans selling poppies on Memorial and Veteran's Days. Very symbolic, it was... Still see that here and I always buy one.
rockpile Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I'm so used to saying "you too" to the "have a nice day" I get when I leave a store. I usually end up saying it even when the cashier's last words are something like "thank you". Then as I'm walking out I realize that my response made absolutely no sense. Anyway, things I don't see anymore: subway tokens people using payphones people holding doors for others (very rare) I still do!
rockpile Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 A watch you have to wind. I have one but not many around anymore. And what you don't hear anymore is a ticking watch. My Seiko ticks, and it has to be manually set because it does not compensate for date or day. Damn, I must be old.
stuckincincy Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Flashbulbs. The AG-1 was a leap forward, and then the Flashcube. I always liked the smell wafting from a fired flashbulb. Not quite as good as the amyl acetate coming off a mimeograph - but not bad. Original Jujubes. The hard ones that you could crack with your teeth - not today's translucent softies.
Wacka Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Mimeographs I remember the 7th grade science teacher letting us make our own mimeos for reports we had to give. That was all the handouts from the teachers came on.

buckeyemike Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Burger Chef Tastee-Freez Drive-ins not named Sonic (which are starting to move into the Cleveland area) I must be hungry. Other items include: MTV and VH1 playing music videos Glass pop bottles Regular leaded gasoline Good R&B and Soul music (like Earth, Wind and Fire and the late, great Luther Vandross and Isaac Hayes) Astroturf Westerns on TV that aren't reruns Those weather maps on old TV newscasts that aren't projected on to a "green screen" Pagers (even though my dad still carries one...he refuses to get a cell phone) And my favorite: SHAME.
