John from Riverside Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Are people forgetting how well he was playing towards the end of last year? And it wasn't just on returns. Relax folks.
zazie Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Don't you study the mock drafts? I'd bet you a friendly nickel Everette Brown has a better career than J Byrd. Plus - We really needed a DE but do we really need another Youbouty? Ill go further, bet another nickel that Brown has a better careerr than Byrd OR Maybin. Almost guaranteed he has a better first year - Byrd being injured and Maybin holding out still. Brown has been healthy and from what I understand a super pleasant surprise in traning camp, looking like he may well lock down a starting position. If so, I think he get 5-8 sacks this campaign. Thanks DJ, great job.
Turn Down For Watkins Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Leodis and Drayton Florence will be a TD machine. Count on it. The only question is who gets beat worse. It will look like Twister. Your a real rey of sunshine around here, Aren't ya?
Rico Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I think McKelvin is the only player on D that has shown true star potential, everyone else is either old (Stroud), unknown (Maybin, Byrd), or flawed (the rest). I say give him a little time & get more experience, let's see just how good he can get.
Bill from NYC Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 It is hard to tell how good any of our star studded, blue chip defensive backs are, or how good they will ever be on the Bills. The fact is, there is no pass rush. Another fact.....they play a mile off the ball. Like Schobel or hate him (I think he is a good player), but the guy can bring pressure. Oh wait.....no he can't, because even he, their best pass rusher, is out in freaking pass coverage in the Dumbo Jauron system. Is this what he is going to do with Maybin? Put him in coverage? Like many have said.....at least if we get crushed this year, Jauron will more than likely be ousted, and go coach defensive backs at some small college.

bluv Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 McKlevin's struggles are more indictive of the Bills scheme not playing to his strength. He, like Greer seems to play better when they man up close and run with WR rather than playing a soft zone. McGee plays better in a zone. McKlevin has to think, anticipate and react too much in zone coverage when in man he has the ability to shadow a WR. It is another example of coaches forcing a player to fit a scheme then allowing them to play to their strengths. Now as far as Byrd vs Brown; we will never know until 3-5 years down the road. But as of right now, it looks the Bills could have had 2 of the top 3 pass rushers in this years draft (one on the cheap) but passed Brown up for another project who will have to switch and play a position he has never manned. I feel confident with the safeties we have. Whitner while not a playmaker is solid. Scott is a better SS than Whitner if you ask me. Simpson and Wilson are decent backups. We have plenty of good YOUNG DB's; how many safeties can you have on the field at one time? If you look at edge rushers we are lacking. All our DE's look slow with no explosiveness and they all lack size and power. Why not take a chance on Brown, give him a chance to learn under Schoebel who is coming off injury. Based on last year we already know that we don't have a DE on this roster who can step in and fill Aaron passrushing load and he himself may not be able to return back to form. Brown could have been a steal and no one would have question his pick in the 2nd round. We don't know what Brown or Byrd will do but If Brown didn't pan out then oh well; no one would have said "man, why didn't those Bills take Byrd when he was on the board instead of Brown?" as Byrd was considered a late round pick. Now he has to produce or he will be considered a bust based on where he was projected and drafted. He and Maybin COULD have been a force to be reckon with the next 4-5 years.

K-9 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 ... as Byrd was considered a late round pick.... I'd like to see those projections since everything I read pre-draft was that he was projected to go in the 2nd or 3rd round. GO BILLS!!!
