Tsaikotic Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I hear you with McKinney. I find it hard to see C. Harris making the roster given that he is acting like a wallflower in camp (practice squad maybe). I also don't think they will carry 4 TE's as April will want the 6th WR for Special Teams. Not sure who you mean with C.Harris...I don't see any player by that name on the roster...Well on Billsdaily.com it's not anyways On of those safeties are going to get cut. They're not keeping 6 safeties for 2 spots. You're cutting DE Chris Ellis after one year? Crazy? I really want to believe that, based on his play, McKinney would not make the roster. He looks terrible thus far IMO. However, I remain undecided because we have two rookies starting, and does that mean the Bills want some sort of veteran there as insurance and a mentor? Can't decide. But IMO, Philip and Rodd are better players. Yea..Originally I had M. Philip as the backup "C", but wasn't sure if he manned any other positions as well..I might make a change back to Philip as my choice actually...I haven't been to any to any practices yet so I haven't seen how the competition for backup "C" has been going I was kind of torn between Stupar and Jenkins...I know Jenkins is a ST ace and should have gone with him in the first place...Stupar probably makes the PS this year again. I usually check and change a few players every day or so...shows how bored I am
Tsaikotic Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I can't understand why everyone thinks McIntyre makes the team! Has he done anything in camp? Does the offense even use the fullback anymore? Not to mention, wasn't this guy's specialty on ST was as the "wedge buster", if I remember correctly and we certainly don't need that anymore. John wendling will make the team because the new ST rules dictate having more mobile blockers, which he certainly is. Chris Ellis will make it because we need DE help in anyway we can get it. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Corto make the team as the 7th LB/Josh Stamer memorial spot. I think most of us have him making the team mostly due to the fact he's the only true FB on the team, as far as I can remember anyways....If it was up to me he'd be gone...I'd rather see more WR's or TE's or even RB's on the feild then see a FB being used..I think the FB spot is a wasted spot with this offense..I could be wrong tho, usually am

The only value of a FB is short yardage situations. What they should do is use a backup lineman (OL/DL) to plow out at the point of attack. Having McCargo as a FB could be devastating.

What they should do is use a backup lineman (OL/DL) to plow out at the point of attack. Having McCargo as a FB could be devastating. I agree. Other teams do that effectively. To me there is no use to use up a valuable roster spot on a marginal FB to play three plays a game when a back-up lineman could do it probably just as well. As for your 53, I think there is no way we keep 6 safeties. Hardy is expected back by the last pre-season game. If there is a way (I can't think of one) to let him practice with the team and then off of 53 man roster for three games they might, say, keep him off the roster, leave a RB on there until Lynch comes back and then replace Omon or Hall or whomever with Hardy. We may not need the back-up C if McKinney can play it in a pinch. I think Ellis makes the team, maybe at Jenkins or Wendling or Simpson or even Wilson's expense.
Phlegm Alley Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I think Kelsay is going to be cut this year. His play doesn't justify his salary. Ellis, Denney, Maybin and Spencer Johnson platoon the DE positions.

The classic Sam Gash-type FB is dead in football. The only FBs who are doing anything now are the ones that can catch out of the backfield and pass protect. The blocking FB isn't worth enough to take up the roster spot. I think part of it actually is that RBs can more easily make their reads without the FB and aren't used to it, since so many college programs runt he spread. If you want a shifty rookie RB to play right away, he'll be better in single-back, behind two TEs rather than a FB. I think Kelsay is going to be cut this year. His play doesn't justify his salary. Ellis, Denney, Maybin and Spencer Johnson platoon the DE positions. That's just not going to happen. They'll keep five DEs this year, with Johnson as the 6th.

Kelly the Dog Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Nelson basically is a wide receiver Just because they are splitting him wide a bit in passing drills doesn't at all mean he is basically a WR. He is learning all the plays from a TE position, and learning all the blocking schemes from the TE position, too. They just think it's a little risky because he is a little small and inexperienced to thrust him into the in-line TE spot too much too soon. They are splitting him out to get him on the field, not to play him like a WR or turn him into more of one. As quickly as they possibly can they want him to be an inline TE who can handle all the blocking duties as well as split him out sometimes to get some mismatches.

Tsaikotic Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Cary Harris - one of this years draft picks from USC LOL...I read McKinny and didn't shift off the OL when I read the next the next sentence...I assumed he was still taking OL in the next sentence...my bad
