Grade: 75 | Key Alert: None Comment: Whitner had another solid season in 2008 but was banged up some and didn't have the production he marked up in his previous two years. Whitner is a compact built player with good power and athleticism. He is an excellent run support defender who is best attacking down hill to the line of scrimmage. Whitner is a solid reactor to both the run and pass. He maintains leverage with proper angles while playing under control. He is a physical safety who works through trash with good hand use to ward off blockers as well as showing great pop and power as an open field tackler. 9th overall among safeties 2009 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 78 | Key Alert: None Comment: Posluszny bounced back from an injury in his rookie season to have an excellent year for the Bills. He is a good combination of size, strength and athleticism. He is a tough hardnosed player that attacks the line of scrimmage with attitude and conviction. He is excellent at taking proper angles to leverage the football as well as maintaining good mesh points with his down lineman. He has the speed, quickness and agility to be effective inside out to the ball. He is a solid wrap tackler that keeps his pads over his feet in the open field. He has improved as a coverage defender with better route progression reads in zone schemes. He has enough speed, quickness and agility to be effective in combination man coverages but may not have enough athleticism in pure man schemes. There were some durability concerns about Posluszny coming out of college. It was important for him to bounce back with an impressive year as the man in the middle of the Buffalo defense. 24th among all LBs 2009 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 69 | Key Alert: None Comment: McKelvin is coming off his rookie season where he marked up six starts. he is a compact built player with excellent athleticism and deceptive strength. He has great foot agility, quickness and speed to be an effective perimeter defender. McKelvin shows excellent instincts and reactions for a rookie. He leverages the ball well and reads route progressions effectively. McKelvin has good range to pursue with well in defending both the run and pass. He plays with excellent body positioning and maintains a solid cushion to guard against the big play. He is an aggressive player who will stay active to the pile. He is inconsistent against block protections as well as when tackling. 37th among CBs 2009 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 64 | Key Alert: None Comment: Williams has been a mainstay along the Bills' defensive line since entering the league in 2006. A short powerful player built with a low center of gravity, he is an interior run stopper who can anchor well at the point of attack. He uses his hand well to control defenders and restrict running lanes. He feels pad pressure well and reads blocking schemes effectively as plays unfold. Williams has good short area quickness and lateral agility but is limited outside the tackle box. He has strength to push the pocket as a pass rusher but is a limited with his moves and counters to be disruptive in this area. 45th among DTs I can get any player you like. Butler isn't an explosive run blocker, but he can wall off defenders effectively with technique and active hands. Takes adequate not great angles to downfield blocks, can adjust to moving targets in space and can get into position at the second level. Shuffles feet well and can redirect in pass protection. Thanks I guess they weren't going to give a guy who hasn't played a real down a real grade. Butler's report worries me with his lack of lateral agility, quickness, and balance which is all needed by a tackle. Hate to ask for one more thing but what is Butlers rank among tackles (Or right tackles). ESPN lumps all tackles together. Sorry. but among all tackles, he would be tied for 45th. He lit it up early being particularly adept on third-down completions -- and stumbled toward the middle of the season. Edwards is a big, strong-armed signal-caller with above-average athletic ability. He can slide and move effectively in the pocket to deliver the ball down field. Edwards can make all the throws with accuracy, but he isn't capable of powering the ball into small windows. He has improved his reads and timing to get rid of the ball down field in the passing game. Edwards is smart. It appears the game has slowed down dramatically for him in second NFL season. Grade: 59 | Key Alert: None Comment: McCargo has been a backup interior defensive tackle for the three seasons in the league. He's never really lived up to his first-round draft status. McCargo missed most of the 2008 season with injury and didn't have any statistical production. He's athletic and is most effective when stunting to penetrate gaps. He isn't a naturally powerful defender to anchor at the point of attack but does not consistently hold the point. McCargo has some success when he plays with good pad level where he can generate power with leg drive, effort and technique. There are durability concerns . I'd rather his high energy be used on making the pile than reading and reacting and running over to the pile. 2. I'm not sure what he's using that "Great" initial quickness for? It's certainly not getting to the passer or backfield stops. 3. He can seperate effectively? He seems swallowed consistently in games i've seen. 4. A solid pass rusher now gets what, 2-3 sacks per year? 5. Setting the edge be damned. I wish he'd close that edge down, or use that great initial quickness and technique to make a difference. 6.
