WellDressed Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I am in agreement with everyone who voted for Ms. Archer. So, what I am reading into this is that the casting department did a so so job. They should have found someone more sexually appealing to fill the role of the antagonist. If Sharon Stone or Diane Lane were cast for the role of Alex Forrest, who would be the choice of everyone??
buckeyemike Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Diane Lane should be in the film, but I think she should be the wife. She just doesn't seem psycho enough to play Alex. Sharon does, but she's probably too old at this point. And if it came down to Sharon as Alex, and Diane as Beth (the wife in the original), my Anne Archer theory (about how much of an idiot Michael Douglas' character was to be cheating on her) still applies, because Diane Lane >>>>> Sharon Stone.
The Dean Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Diane Lane is beautiful, which is why I voted for her. Diane Lane >>>>> Sharon Stone But TheFourHorsmen has it right, she would have made a good wife. Stone might be better in the crazy B word role. (But you'd wonder why a dude would chose Stone over Lane.) I would just like to take the opportunity to mention, one more time, how beautiful Diane Lane is. Vastly underrated, IMO.
KD in CA Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Diane Lane by a mile. I always thought Sharon Stone was overrated, especially after her horrendous acting ruined the last hour of Casino.
buckeyemike Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 But TheFourHorsmen has it right Dean, you can just call me Mike. Saves keystrokes, since I was buckeyemike and all. I would just like to take the opportunity to mention, one more time, how beautiful Diane Lane is. Vastly underrated, IMO. +1

angrygnome Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Diane Lane by a mile. I always thought Sharon Stone was overrated, especially after her horrendous acting ruined the last hour of Casino. Glad to hear I'm not the only one to think she died 45 minutes too late in that movie.
angrygnome Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Oh, and Diane Lane. It's not even close. Anyone else here own Unfaithful on DVD?
KD in CA Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Glad to hear I'm not the only one to think she died 45 minutes too late in that movie. I was thinking more like 2 hours. Seriously though, I can't name another movie that fell off the cliff half way through as a result of a single actor's role. Casino is 9.5 out of 10 in my book through the first 90 minutes, after that....every Sharon Stone scene is almost unwatchable.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 This is a travesty! Diane Lane is nice, but come on! SS is (or I should say WAS) the hottest actress of her era, hands down. Love the voice.
BuffaloBill Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Wow tough choice here but even Mrs. BuffaloBill is a huge Diane Lane fan. (as though this provides appropriate license for me to think about DL in the context of an erotic thriller).
Cugalabanza Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 I think Glenn Close was good casting. No, she is not as attractive as any of the others mentioned, but that's not essential for the story. The affair that sparked all the conflict in the movie does not require that the other woman be irresistably gorgeous. It's about the Michael Douglas character and his struggles. In the Other Woman phenomenon, "Other" is the operative word. It doesn't matter that his wife is more beautiful. I think most married men can relate to this. Anyway, Glenn Close is a very good actor and she was right for the role in my opinion.

Studies show that when guys cheat, it's not necessarily cause the other woman is more attractive than his wife. Just different and lacking the everyday baggage of life.

We should feel sorry for Archer and everything that is thrown against her. For Close, there is virtually no likability other than a gutty sex aspect.

WellDressed Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 Yup. Good point. Overall, I feel that this is a rather shamley produced thread, and should be shut down accordingly.

Man the first time I watched Notorious, It was quite the letdown; I had no idea what the extra plot sell (Hitchcock's macguffin) was.
