Tom Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I really figured cable would get a shot........... Oh well, It looks like I'll have DTV a long time! They're kicking in $3.5 Billion!!!!!!!!! There go the rates! Sorry Cable.............
Mikie2times Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 If you would have talked to me a few months ago this would have been a major disappointment. About that time I was sick of not being able to see my Bills so I got Direct TV and couldn't be happier with the service. With the amount of money they had to shell out to the NFL I definitely expect a rate increase from DTV next season for the ticket. If you were to compare that increase with what cable would have implemented I'm sure it will be relatively small.
Fezmid Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 The article doesn't say that the deal is exclusive. Last I heard, cable was allowed to bid in 2-3 years, so that it could be offered on cable AND DirecTV. That said, DirecTV is the way to go. CW
CJPearl2 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Fez--I read that the deal is exclusive. Ill try and find the link.

There go the rates! Sorry Cable............. 108805 A few years back I know the Cable Companies were pretty sure they were going to get in on the deal...I asked a couple of my local Customer Service Reps and they kept saying "next year for sure..." It's a bit frustrating for me because along with the Cable/DVR Package I've also got Cable Modem and Digital Phone. So keeping the Dish for the NFL seems a bit much...But there is nothing like the Package...it's a must! B)
aussiew Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 It's still cheaper than sitting in a sports bar orering beer and food. Plus you get the audio and all the comforts of home.
Tom Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 DirecTV is keeping its lock on NFL Sunday Ticket, announcing with the National Football League late Monday a five-year $3.5 billion agreement to extend and expand the satellite TV giant's exclusive rights to carry the sports package. DirecTV said it will continue to have exclusive multichannel television rights to air NFL Sunday Ticket games through the 2010 season. In addition, DirecTV also extended its carriage agreement with NFL Network, which is part of DirecTV's Total Choice basic subscription package. As for customers, in addition to the standard NFL Sunday Ticket package DirecTV will offer a premium package that will deliver enhanced interactive features and services as well as expanded programming. Customers who get the premium package will have access to new interactive services, viewer-selected camera angles and replays, a new "Red Zone" channel, and technology that will allow viewers to index, search for, and view plays of a specific NFL player, team or play-type from games played that Sunday. Also, DirecTV gained an exclusive deal to develop and distribute enhanced and exclusive versions of NFL post-season games, including the Super Bowl. And DirecTV DVR customers who receive highlights on demand will receive expanded and unique NFL-related content and highlights downloaded to their hard drives. Along with the DirecTV deal the NFL announced that it extended broadcast TV deals with CBS and FOX through 2011. __________________

I still pay 39.95 for more channels than I did in 1996. Sunday ticket has only gone up 70$ in 8 years I think thats still a deal at $300 a year since its not just Bills games its EVERY NFL game on sunday!!!

I only paid $179 this year. Although I do think I'll be losing a bet next year... CW

CW 109252 I think spidey is saying that at $300 it would still be a deal. Glad I signed up last year, I would be kicking myself if I had waited "until cable gets the package". Sorry CL.

Sorry CL. 109319 Correst given we are paying 179 this year and paid 99 or 109 in 96 dont see a mjor increase but to me its a deal at whatever price it is. DTV isnt stupid and wont overprice the individual subscriber thats not been the business model for the last 8 years and dont expect it to change anytime soon.
Tony P Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 cool 108831 Fez, it does say exclusive.
