Ashlee Palmer scouting report

Strengths:

Outstanding athlete...Excellent speed and quickness...Has sideline-to-sideline range...Explosive with a burst...Smooth and agile with great change of direction...Has fluid hips and more than holds his own in coverage...Decent hands / ball skills ... Probably still has some upside.

Weaknesses:

Vastly undersized...Is not very strong or physical...Has trouble taking on and shedding blockers...Not a great tackler...Didn't make a lot of impact plays as a senior...Limited Division I experience...Struggled with academics so either intelligence or commitment may be an issue.

Notes:

Originally signed with Washington but didn't qualify and spent two years at Compton (Calif.) Community College...Tried to enroll at Washington again in 2006 but didn't meet the school's entrance requirements so he sat out the season...Eventually transferred to Ole Miss in 2007 and was a two-year starter for the Rebels...Has a young daughter...A move to safety is within the realm of possibility...Has some raw tools to work with but will need to land in the right situation with a team that is willing to sacrifice size for his speed and athleticism.

HE SOUNDS LIKE A PROTOTYPICAL BILLS GUY - GOOD BUT UNDERSIZED

Lets hope he pans out as LB seems to be a bit under-depthed at this point. We cant afford to lose another one at this point for sure.

Moving him to safety would be another Coy Wire situation. I've watched Palmer in college and he's got good ball instincts and is more quick than fast. He would be able to handle covering average TE's in the league, but would struggle a lot against the faster more elite TEs. He doesn't have the speed to play over the top in the NFL, he just lacks that extra gear to maintain coverage. With DiGiorgio gone, Palmer has a chance to find his way onto the roster on STs, but if we have to count on him as a LB more than a few plays game, its going to be trouble.
