ExiledInIllinois Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 It's THEIR wedding let them celebrate it or do whatever they want. Saying employers will look at this in disdain is a bit of a stretch. I agree. IMO, it is just plain brutally goofy. A pure LAMP in its finest. And that is the sad thing about some in our culture... There is no humility. Like one poster mentioned about others trying to top this. That is what it is all about to many. I just find it as an indictment what out society has become... Almost everything is "look at me" "look at me." "Humility is the foundation of all the other virtues hence, in the soul in which this virtue does not exist there cannot be any other virtue except in mere appearance.” ~Saint Augustine

Because it looked to me like they were just having a good time and just wanted to do something fun, simply put.
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 For me I think that this goes back to my First Holy Communion picture in 1976... My mother had me dressed in a green leisure suit, white stitching, the whole nine yards! Granted, I probably wouldn't have liked to wear the tie or whatever traditional suit there was... But, I was never asked... Now the picture is forever immortalized in oil! Same thing with my father in the 1930's... His mother had him knickers! He is still pissed!
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Are you sure they did this as a LAMP? Because it looked to me like they were just having a good time and just wanted to do something fun, simply put. Oh... It is a LAMP... It is on YouTube.
The Dean Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I agree. IMO, it is just plain brutally goofy. A pure LAMP in its finest. And that is the sad thing about some in our culture... Booster4324 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Oh... It is a LAMP... It is on YouTube. And who posted it there? You seem to know.
The Dean Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Me thinks that you Dean have done a lot of things that are dated... Just a hazard guess... Without a doubt. And I don't look back on the events where there I/we used creativity to make the event extraordinary (ie not ordinary) with regret or embarrassment. Those are the greatest moments ever, for the most part. But remember, my style is timeless and classic. Always has been.
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 No, I don't find it "in bad taste". I think they HAVE bad taste (specifically in music), and are likely to have bad taste when they are older*. They could have picked a terrible traditional song, and I wold think the same thing. They are likely to always like this song, for no other reason than it made an extremely memorable wedding experience. The embarrassment won't be as you describe, but that cute bit of almost "proud" embarrassment people get when looking back at special times. Why play it safe if you can do something exceptional? I actually think this was very well done, overall. *(Let's remember I think most people have bad taste in music.) EDIT: JMO, of course. What is a terrible traditional wedding song? This: I just picture hip German wife and husband to be pulling this off in the during the 1850's!
extrahammer Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Oh... It is a LAMP... It is on YouTube. Over half a million people have posted their wedding videos on YouTube, what's your point?
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 And who posted it there? You seem to know. Probably somebody like my fuggin brother (known for gratuitously throwing family pictures on FaceBook).

ExiledInIllinois Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 A wedding is the ultimate LAMP event, in many societies. True. YET... Not "free form." Most other societies have their strict rules. Good you imagine something like this in Mexico. Again, not that I care or condone the stricter side of it... That too poses problem. We as Americans are truly on our own in this world when it comes to the ultimate in goofballness.
The Poojer Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Here's a thought.....lets not worry about how others decide to do things, unless of course it directly impacts how you do things....... True. It is a LAMP... It is on YouTube. You are saying because it's on YouTube it's a LAMP, therefore, the bride and groom at this wedding are completely self-absorbent and uploading the video to YouTube like millions of others - who have all types of different weddings - is proof of that? So does that include anyone on facebook or any other social network?
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Here's a thought.....lets not worry about how others decide to do things, unless of course it directly impacts how you do things....... Sounds like a plan. Can't people talk?
The Poojer Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 3 pages criticizing a couple trying to do something fun.....that's not talking....that's beating a dead horse.... Sounds like a plan. Can't people talk?

The Senator Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 It's THEIR wedding let them celebrate it or do whatever they want. Saying employers will look at this in disdain is a bit of a stretch. Mr J - I did not mean the wedding couple might get 'called out' by an employer for their silliness. (Although I'd fire 'em both tomorrow! ) I was merely expounding on my earlier admonition to Young Sage to never - especially when being recorded for posterity - do something (or wear something) that you will one day "look back on with astonished regret". As an example, I cited that the kids in this photo that I linked... link ...might someday have to explain the mohawks and bizarre attire of their misguided youth to their own kids - or worse - a prospective employer. Sorry if I caused any confusion.
HopsGuy Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I saw a couple of months ago. I'm not one for showtunes, but I thought it was pretty epic.
Simon Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I could only stomach a few seconds of it but it did answer a question I've always had about whether or not they use bridesmaids when gay dudes get married.
