Neil Young Albuquerque

This morning on XM radio (the loft) I heard Neil Young's song Albuquerque. Although I consider myself a Neil Young fan, I've never heard this song. I was pleased to "discover" such a simple yet powerful song.

Well, they say

that Santa Fe

Is less than ninety miles away,

And I got time to roll a number

and rent a car.

I've been flyin'

down the road,

And I've been starvin' to be alone,

And independent from the scene

that I've known.

So I'll stop when I can,

Find some fried eggs

and country ham.

I'll find somewhere where

they don't care who I am.

This leads me to pose two questions.

 

1. Any good Neil Young/Neil Young concert stories?

 

I saw a pretty good show in Charlotte 8/96 with Crazy Horse. An up-and-coming Jewel was the opening act.

 

2. The question that I would most like to get the ball rolling on, do you know of any "hidden gems" or "deep cuts" by popular artists. Here are two of mine:

 

Warren Zevon - Accidentally Like A Martyr.

 

Van Morrison - Days Like This.

I saw him in '76 in Buffalo at the aud. He was skinny in not a good way...The skin was just flapping off his bones .Was a decent show-not great.Probbly his heroin period.

I was never a huge Neil Young fan, only moderate, until 1993, my girl friend (a huge NY fan) coerced me into spending a few hundred dollars (which was a lot at that time) to take her to see him at the cavernous Irwin Center, here in Austin. The place is a horrid music venue, but we sat in the second row, just slightly left of dead center... Booker T and the MGs were his backing band...it was the "Harvest Moon" tour... I was blown away, and have been a much bigger Neal Young fan since then... guy is a great performer, IMO. I was blown away by the power of his guitar playing...I know, from a prvious thread about guitar players, the music snobs here think he sucks on the six string, but I strongly disagree... still, to this day, one of my all time favorite shows...
