todd Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I'm in Manhattan for a week in the financial district. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to eat? Looking for good food, not too expensive, but not diner food. Something that won't go freaky on the expense report, but somewhere I can eat well and have a nice drink or two. Assistance from any downstate Bills brothers or sisters would be helpful.
gmac17 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 are you willing to spend $10 on a cab, or $2 on a subway ride 10 minutes outside the neighborhood?
a player to be named later Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 There is a small cobble stone street that is closed to traffic that is right at the foot of the Goldman Sachs building. There is a row of 5 or 6 restaurants that provide service right on the street. It is very cool, also like a desert oasis in the middle of the city. Very busy during happy hour, but the prices are right... It is also restaurant week in NYC... Pre Fixe dinners $35. You could try a really nice place for little cost.

I'll definitely check that out. During the day I'll be a block or two away from there.
Guffalo Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Try the Seaport for some casual stuff. Irish pub Ohara's 1 block south of ground zero Papoos around 41 Broadway Suspenders just off Broadway 1 block south east of ground zero Or a quick walk or subway to Canal street for Chinatown or Little Italy, great stuff there

Very busy during happy hour, but the prices are right... That would be Stone Street, good recommendation for lunch. I enjoyed a meal there recently with a certain illustrious poster. My office is a block from the Seaport but most of the stuff there is medicore tourist fare. Unless you go over a couple blocks to Peck Slip which has a few good places. But the better ones are more expensive.
tennesseeboy Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Try Jean Georges. It is not in the financial district but at 1 Central Park W. I've loved it and people who I respect who are much more the gourmand type swear by it. Phone: (212) 299-3900
JoeFerguson Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 It is also restaurant week in NYC... Pre Fixe dinners $35. You could try a really nice place for little cost. Find a cuisine you like and do restaurant week. http://www.opentable.com/promo.aspx?m=8&pid=69

KD in CA Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 http://www.rosamexicano.com/Locations/tabid/75/Default.aspx Man, I LOVE Rosa Mexicana! Wifey and I used to go all the time when we were dating and she lived near Columbus Circle. Awesome food and a couple of those margaritas and you are stumbling home! A couple other very good choices if you are downtown (althought a little more expensive): http://bridgecafenyc.com/ http://www.markjosephsteakhouse.com/index2.htm http://nelsonblue.com/
bills_fan Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Good call on Nelson Blue (although not your link), I'm pretty good friends with the owner and one of the bartenders. Stone Street is an excellent call, you really can't go wrong with any of the places. I'd also recommend the following... http://www.trinityplacenyc.com/ http://www.batterygardens.com/ Or, if you are looking for a very nice meal.... http://www.delmonicosny.com/

Had the bankers take me to lunch there last fall. My colleague from out of town is staying at the Seaport Plaza tonight so we may head over to Nelson Blue for dinner. Sorry about the link. Kia Ora!

The main restaurant is pricey (I did a lunch tasting menu, and it was probably $50-$70 w/o the alcohol), but he also has this very cool upstairs spot, which is almost like eating in the kitchen and is probably more affordable. http://www.davidbouley.com/
