A lot of people felt that the previews were the best part of the Tarantino/Rodgrigez "Grindhouse" feature a couple of years ago....I loved everything to do with that project, and I can't wait to see this one come to fruition! Danny Trejo rules!

I thought it was OK, but agree the trailers were the best part.

I see he has what must be a remake, "Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill" in production:

The original was a hoot.

Inglourious Basterds looks like it might be interesting:

I agree, I've been looking forward to "Basterds" since I first heard about the project. I have a hard time not being pretty intrigued by just about everything Tarantino gets his hands on. To me, the guy is one of the purest filmmakers on earth, and you just never know what to expect from his stuff. I remember the first time I saw Pulp Fiction, I re-wound the damn thing and watched it a second time on the spot. I never expect his new stuff to equal that experience, but I look forward to everything he puts out.

I think Tarantino is a bit overrated. I'm not saying that I dislike his movies, I just think he gets far more credit than he deserves. "Reservoir Dogs" & "Pulp Fiction" are both very good, and I think "Jackie Brown" does not get nearly enough credit as Dogs and Fiction does.

As for "Inglorious Basterds", from just the few trailers I have seen, I am not all that excited. When I heard it was going to be a WWII movie I was intrigued. I was wondering what a WWII Tarantino movie would be like. Unfortunately, I now know the answer to that. Tarantino is in a spot. "Grindhouse" was a failure and Tarantino must prove that he is still relevant. We shall see.

As for "Machete", I think it was best as a trailer and nothing more. Honestly is anybody going to really care about a full length Machete feature film? Danny Trejo is a good character actor, but how many people really know him?

I did not see Grindhouse, but is this the same Danny Trejo/Machete character that's in the Spy Kids movies?

Grindhouse didn't make a lot of money in the theater, but it was received pretty well critically. It's funny, cause I know people who were bored to tears by the dialogue-driven bar scenes in Death Proof. I, on the other hand, was completely glued to the screen waiting to see what they were going to say or do next. That's why I love Tarantino's work....I never know what's going to happen, and he has a good feel for what makes someone (or something) "cool", and what doesn't. I have a short list of actors and directors where I'll see anything they do, no matter how good or bad I think the previews look. Tarantino's stuff is something I will always look forward to, cause if nothing else, I know I'm going to see something non-formulaic, interesting, and unpredictable.

He probably is a little overrated. Not as overrated as some mindless idiot like Michael Bay, but a little overrated to be sure.

I still prefer his movies to most of the mainstream, big budget garbage that comes out of Hollywood, these days.

EDITED to avoid further embarrassment.

CHECK IT

Rodriguez is also working on a new Predator movie called "Predators".

http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/12/nei...edators-reboot/

"I think another reason I called it Predators was to mark it as a project that should be taken seriously by a filmmaker to make a worthy follow up to a classic, much in the way Cameron made Aliens a compelling work on its own, following Ridley Scott's Alien."

If it's half as good as Aliens, I'll be happy.

I think the garbage is getting worse too, Dean. Thank God the cost of making indy films has spurred such massive growth...if not for all the lesser known gems out there (and there are a lot of them these days), my love of film would really be suffering.

Did I really type "mains stream"?

I'd better go edit that.

Oh, and I agree with you 100%.

I hope they make a Machete Movie. Actor/Director Eli Roth already confirmed he is fully funding the making of the movie "Thanksgiving" which was my favorite Grindhouse trailer. Put the two together for Grindhouse 2 I say.

For those who don't remember here is the "Thanksgiving" trailer. Completely, 100% NSFW.

I was not bored to death with the dialogue-driven scenes in Death Proof. My problem with Death Proof, is that it felt like two completely different movies. Also the most glaring "goof" of Death Proof was how clean the picture looked, especially later in the film. Planet Terror was all scratched up and messy, keeping in tone with the "Grindhouse Look" of things. Most of Death Proof looked so clean in parts you'd think it was shot digitally.

I'm pretty sure it's the same character. Spy Kids was a Robert Rodriguez film as was Planet Terror, so it seems to all tie together there.

BTW, great icon. Up should be nominated for best picture.

Speaking of indy films, have you seen "The Hurt Locker" or "Moon"? Both are quite good, especially Locker.

haven't yet, but very interested in both. Will probably wait for the DVD release. Moon looked especially good, though I've also read some pretty glowing reviews on Hurt Locker. I get more excited about films like this than I do the big ones!
