For some reason (the five Open championships he already owns, perhaps?), I don't see him coming down with a case of nerves. Chatting with a friend who used to write golf before going to the dark side (P.R. flack), and he says this: "Tom Watson isn't just a nice guy. I'm just saying nobody in charge of a tournament should ever put the cart in front of the horse like that. And that little bit of news should be something said when they're handing him the trophy. buckeyemike Posted July 19, 2009 Share Posted July 19, 2009 Watson grew up in the Kansas City area, and Kansas City's weather is not great for golf much of the year. That's a big reason why Tom Watson has done so well at the British Open. He's the best bad weather golfer ever.
