ExiledInIllinois Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I would like to know the number of people here that have even heard of salsify. Goat's beard... I don't exactly have model landscaping.
ans4e64 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 us old timers know all about it...it ranks as one of the most salubrious of culinary vegetables, being antibilious, cooling, deobstruent, and slightly aperient; but although it is deservedly esteemed as an esculent, it is nevertheless decidedly inferior to Scorzonera in properties, nor does it keep so well when taken out of the ground, as it soon becomes hardened, insipid, and difficult to cook properly. Dear God I hope that's not English.
The Dean Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Say that in a bar near James Bond and he'll kick yo' ass! 007 knows very well he is not drinking the classic vodka martini (if you can call a martini with vodka "classic"). That's why he has to tell the bartender how to make it, you fool. Shaking is said to "bruise" the vodka. Of course that is nonsense. It does, however, water down the drink more, and it can bruise the ice, leaving small chips of ice that can get past the strainer. I believe the new boring Bond takes his stirred, in the traditional manner, or at least does not bother to specify.

geggytah Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 www.webtender.com...use the "In my bar" feature. You click a list of things you have and it will tell you what you can make.

Meet any interesting parrot heads? (I'm chuckling at the thought of an "interesting parrot head".)
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Link That's MR. DILDO! to you jackass!! I am sorry, I don't call anything that looks like a dick Mister!
The Poojer Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 actually, the pool manager/swim coach had a big gallon jug of 'jungle juice' (kool-aid & everclear)...had a couple of those, also had a shot of patron anejo(over rated)....had one pina colada, then went to plain old boring beer for the rest of the evening.... Well, what did you make? Meet any interesting parrot heads? (I'm chuckling at the thought of an "interesting parrot head".)

Shake it over ice, and add a thin slice of lemon peel." I would suggest that, given your explanation, Bond asks for it shaken specifically to water it down. He is a spy, after all...does him no good to get drunk on the job.

Well, in Casino Royale, asked if he wants his martini shaken or stirred, new boring Bond replies, "Do I look like I give a damn?" Interesting fact that I didn't know until just know - the proper name for a 'martini' - when "shaken, not stirred" - is actually a 'Bradford'. Jed Bartlet: Can I tell you what's messed up about James Bond? Charlie Young: Nothing. Jed Bartlet: Shaken, not stirred, will get you cold water with a dash of gin and dry vermouth. The reason you stir it with a special spoon is so not to chip the ice. James is ordering a weak martini and being snooty about it. Only, I thought Bond drank vodka martinis, no?

The second time he asks, at the bar...because he's pissed. The first time, at the poker table, he orders just what I quoted. And apparently the movie Bond does only drink vodka martinis...except in Casino Royale, which is faithful to the book.
DC Tom Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 To what part of my post is "Nope" intended? Is that the new Bond's martini of choice? Last part. Bond still takes his martinis shaken. As a side note: The length of this discussion of James Bond's martini habits has now vastly exceeded my interest in it.
Chef Jim Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Salsify and gin. My wife , who knows a good drink when she tastes one, had this respon : "Oh, that can't be good." What she pretty much said was
